Govt turns up heat on schools flouting nursery guidelines

The Delhi government has sent notices to all schools that are not sticking to the nursery admission schedule set by the directorate of education. Some schools had announced conflicting dates for parents to buy and submit application forms. The directorate of education, however, had
issued a guideline, saying that all schools will have to sell and accept forms from January 1 to January 15.

“We have sent notices to schools, including St Francis, Janakpuri, Mt Saint Mary, Delhi Cantonment, and Loreto Convent School, Delhi Cantonment, asking them to explain why they are not following the guidelines. Mt Saint Mary and Loreto Convent School have replied, telling us that they will give out forms on all 15 days. We have not received an official response from St Francis,” said Amit Singla, the director of education.

There are more schools flouting government guidelines. The Apeejay School chain has not given points for the different categories in the general category but has created sub categories, an action that the directorate has said is not permissible.

“I have not been approached by the authorities regarding the validity of our admission guidelines but if we are erring, we will change the system,” said DK Bedi, principal, Apeejay School, Pitampura.

According to the guidelines, schools cannot give points on the basis of the parents’ profession, education and income. Several schools are violating these guidelines, too.

“As in the past, many schools are flouting RTE guidelines openly by giving points to professions/occupations of the parents and asking for their incomes. Some schools are giving points for intercity transfer. This makes no sense as points for distance are given on the basis of the address of residence which generally does not change in case of transfers within the city. One school has just declared the explanation of 70 points. It seems they will manipulate the rest according to their whims and fancies,” said Sumit Vohra, founder, admissionsnursery.com.

Singla, however, said that all complaints will be taken seriously and will be acted upon.

Samita, READ THIS MESSAGE ON THE HOME PAGE OF LORETO CONVENT WEBSITE

"Please note that the dates are given for the convenience  of parents. However, registration forms are available till 11:00 am, 15th January 2013 for all the categories."

and what about those schools who are not setting minimum age as per DOE guidelines. Mt. Caramel, dwarka has set the minimum entry age as 3.5 yrs.

Jyoti,We are also fighting for that .

Thank you sakshi.. you guys are doing a great job.. If i can be of any help in any way please let me know

sure  , see your in box

sorry i missed it .. will do it tomorrow..

Hi Sakshi / Sumit, Thanks for providing ONE and ONLY helping hand to parents running pillar to post these days. One such school flouting DoE norms is Mother Teresa, Preet Vihar, they have segregated the form buying and submission dates, they are asking to submit forms only between 9th to 15-Jan.

Also I don't know why schools are so insensitive towards parents; many schools have kept the forms distribution till 11 am only. Even if one parent starts as early as 8:00am s/he will not able to collect forms of 10-12 schools in a single day considering traffic conditions in Delhi. Main problem is No-one cares for time and money spent by parents in this whole process, schools think about their own convenience only.

@Manu, i agree but Doe has not given dates for submission of submission, so please tell me how to raise the issue.

Why MTPS  Preet vihar is flouting guidelines?

Sakshi Mam

As per the news I am sure Apeejay will change it's guidelines. Thanks to Mr.Vohra who has given more pressure through the media now DOE has come into action. Schools bent down to DOE after few years of erring act.
