One-Month Period Fixed By Govt For Exercise To Reduce Stress For Parents
TIMES NEWS NETWORK
New Delhi: The month-long exercise for parents of tiny tots is set to begin with the sale of nursery admission forms starting from December 15. In fact, for the first time, some schools — DPS R K Puram, The Indian School, Salwan Montessori — will sell the forms for 30 days till January 15 giving ample time to parents to apply.
Though schools followed different schedules for nursery admissions till last year, the Directorate of Education (DoE) cracked the whip directing schools to sell forms between December 15 and January 15. As a result, parents have been spared the stress of keeping track of important dates for different schools. But now, as the process finally begins with all schools opening for admissions together, parents have lots of work at hand.
Said Kapil Vasudev from Janakpuri, who wants to secure a seat for his three-yearold daughter, ‘‘I have already made a list of dates for at least 10 schools in my vicinity. As I plan to apply in all these schools at the earliest, going online will be the best option.’’ For first-timers, the nursery admission procedure starts with buying and submitting properly filled-up forms at various schools of your choice. It’s best to choose the school keeping in mind the admission parameters of every school. The school then shortlists the candidates and invites the parents for an informal interaction. Any kind of interview of the parents or the child has been banned by the Delhi High Court.
Over the last three years since the interviews were abolished, many schools have switched to the online way of registrations. DPS, Sanskriti, Gyan Bharati, Amity International, Vasant Valley, Bal Bharati — all have their registration process online now.
Advised Sumit Vohra, founder of the online forum for parents — www.admissionsnursery.com, ‘‘Parents should first look for schools giving out forms only for a few days like The Srijan School or Apeejay, Pitampura. Then registering online wherever possible is the best way to go about the process.’’ The online process also saves the trouble of buying the prospectus as all the information is avaialble on school website. Said D R Saini, principal, DPS R K Puram, ‘‘As we start giving out forms only online from December 15, the entire admission criteria and points will be available on the school website on that day.’’
But remember to be alert while filling up the form online. ‘‘Many a times, you are not allowed to register again if you make a mistake in the form. I learnt it the hard way last year when I was applying for my daughter’s admission. Also make sure to click all the parameters you meet so that you don’t lose any crucial points,’’ said Vohra.
