New Delhi: So compelling is the cause of nursery admissions in the city that this IT consultant from Vasant Kunj didn’t mind turning into a writer. Sumit Vohra managed to secure a nursery seat for his daughter in seven of the 11 schools he had applied to last year. With this enviable record, Vohra is now coming out with a book based on his experiences to equip parents with tricks and tips to win the ‘battle of nursery admissions’ this year.
The book titled ‘7/11’ will be released online as well as in print. Much to the benefit of new parents on the block, Vohra has given elaborate details of his experiences at various prominent south Delhi schools in the book. ‘‘I went through a lot of tension during my daughter’s admission earlier this year. I started preparing for it in January 2008 and used to surf the internet all night and talk to experienced parents,’’ says Vohra. ‘‘That’s why I thought of recording my experiences in a book so that other parents can get all the information at one place,’’ he adds.
Schools may insist that interactions for nursery admissions are informal and no preparation is required. However, Vohra says fastening his belt early helped him sail t h ro u g h . But not all his meetings with schools were encouraging. ‘‘Once, a well-known school refused to accept my voter-Id card, my electricity bills or my child’s fee receipts from the play school as my residential proof. Though we had scored good points, we ended up falling out with a school,’’ Vohra remembers. He has also mentioned in the book that a school in Vasant Vihar had refused to accept his wife’s MSc degree just because she was not carrying her BSc degree!
Another instance he recalls is when a Vasant Kunj school held interaction precisely for a minute wherein
the principal only asked the names of the parents and checked their attire. ‘‘Different schools have different criteria and I don’t want parents to end up feeling cheated. So, I have shared all these unexpected turns in nursery admissions,’’ Vohra says.
The book explains the parameters of a few sought-after schools while the e-book may also have a link to the DoE guidelines. The online version will be available on www.admissionsnursery.co m from August 28 to September 1 after which Vohra plans to release a hard copy.
