Nursery admissions: First list out, parents cry foul
The first list of selected candidates for nursery admissions in private schools on Monday has received a mixed response from parents. The fight between the Delhi government and private schools has hampered the admission process, parents alleged.

Of the 62 point criteria scrapped by the Delhi government, the high court ordered a stay on 11 points and scrapped the rest, leading to confusion among the parents.
While some gave a thumbs-up to the changed procedure, many are complaining after not making it to the first list. "It's ridiculous. I got 60 points in heritage and I am out of it," said Anita Verma, another parent.
The Directorate of Education has received over 73,000 applications against about 23,000 seats for nursery admissions under the EWS category. On Monday, about 26,600 seats were allotted through computerised draws under the EWS category.
"Can someone ask the government if the seats they have secured for EWS categories and management quota only for the elite class? What about us which constitutes major chunk of the population? If this situation remains, our children's children will benefit from this. They will get admission under EWS quota," Surinder Sharma, another parent complained.
"Many parents, whose wards have failed to get through in the schools they have applied for, allege that the points system developed by the schools have come in their way," Sumit Vohra, founder of admissionsnursery.com told.

New Delhi: Education minister Manish Sisodia on Monday conducted the draw of lots for the EWS-DG category in the presence of a few private school principals.
He assured schools that the government will foot the full bill for books and uniforms for such students and a committee has been appointed on the directions of the high court to work out a "formula" for this.
Lists were also declared for general category candidates with many parents discovering that large chunks of seats gone to siblings, girls and other categories.
For Sisodia, the most satisfactory part was that the schools "used technology for these things so that you don't need government at all." The minister added that they were handing all their power over to technology.
"Of the 1 lakh parents seeking admission of their wards in nursery classes in schools with EWS reservation, we've made lives easier for 25%. We've made it easy for us, parents as well as the school authorities," Sisodia said.
The minister also argued that the numbers - 73,059 applications for 28,193 seats - show that the system is working and people are responding. "If there were fewer applications, we'd have to think of another process. Parents would have had to make at least 10 trips to apply in 10 schools. This time, they could apply in an hour. If some parents opt out and seats go vacant, we'll use the same process in the second round," he said.
"The government doesn't see private schools as a separate set. If uniforms and books cost more than what the government is giving, we'll give the full cost. But we'll also draw up a formula to ensure there is no misuse of this provision. Whether you think of any technology, policy, we're willing to even enact laws. Even the directors and deputy directors are open to suggestions and hearing problems," Sisodia told the schools.
However, many parents of general category applicants were disappointed. One parent was invited for a draw to a Rohini school and discovered that all 91 seats in general category had gone to siblings, of whom there were 97.
"Many parents feel that the points system developed by the schools hasn't helped. The results announced so far give the impression that admission is a prerogative of those who have a sibling in the school or those who fulfil the criteria of alumni. Parents of boys are finding it especially difficult," said Sumit Vohra of admissionsnursery.com.

New Delhi, DHNS: The first list of selected applicants for nursery admission in private schools under the general category was out on Monday, bringing relief for some parents while adding to the woes of others.
While some parents were elated as their child's name made it to the list of various schools, others were left dejected as their ward's name did not appear at all in the first list.
"My child has not been selected anywhere despite applying to 20 schools," said a worried parent.
When asked what would be his future course of action, the parent said, "My child is currently in a playschool and if his name does not appear in the second list also, we would be left with no option but to try for a seat under the management quota next year".
Experts said that according to the trend seen in the first list, most have been selected on the basis of points given to girl child, alumni or siblings in addition to distance and parents with boy child are mostly at "loss".
"I had applied to 18 schools in south Delhi for my baby boy but still he did not get selected. The list in all these schools has maximum girls and even the waiting list hardly has any boys," said another parent, who did not wish to be identified.
On other hand some parents whose children managed to make it to the list of several schools are seeking suggestions on which is the best one.
"My daughter's name is there in Bloom, Greenfield, Hope Hall Foundation, Bhatnagar Foundation and Poorna Prajna schools. Please suggest me which one is better," wrote a parent on admissionsnursery.com, an online forum for the parent community.

We have applied for 25 schools taking into consideration the distance criteria. And yesterday eargerly waited for the list.But to the dismay we have not got our name even in single school.
