Nursery admissions Schools flout DoE norms, make own rules

With schools in the Capital starting the nursery admission procedures from Saturday, the schools have started violating the norms issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE). The guidelines issued by the DoE clearly disallows screening of parents on the basis of their educational qualification and income. But the online forms of various schools across the city for instance, VSPK International School, Rohini has sought details of academic/professional, qualification and occupation of the parents.

The admission form for GD Goenka Public School, Dwarka similarly has blank spaces next to parents' qualification, occupation and annual gross income. Furthermore, if allegations by parents are to be believed, some schools are also demanding donations from parents to give admission to their wards.

The online form of VSPK International School, Rohini for 2011-2012, is asking parents to jot down details about their academic/professional, qualification and occupation. The admission form for GD Goenka Public School, Dwarka is similarly asking for parents’ qualification, occupation and
annual gross income. ASN School, Mayur Vihar is also asking parents to give information about their .

Sumit Vohra, founder of admissionsnursery.com, a forum for parents’ queries said, “I do not know why DoE is turning a blind eye to these violations made by the schools. If the DoE is not aware of these violations, they should immediately take some corrective steps". Vohra added that the information sought by public schools asking parents to disclose their academic qualification and professional credentials will definitely lead to the screening of children which is strictly prohibited according to the Right to Education (RTE) and the guidelines issued by the DoE.

Vohra further said, “I wonder whether these criteria and categories were not approved by the DoE? DoE should take up the matter immediately”. A father of a three-year-old and a resident of the Nangloi area said, “I went through the website and forms of VSPK International School, and they
are asking for the parents’ qualifications and their professional details”.

A parent on requesting not to publish his name as it may hamper the chances of their daughter’s admission said, “I did not study in a good school. So, I will not get alumni points, and with all the profiling of parents, I am afraid they will not qualify my child. ” The parent further said that he is looking for nursery schools
in the areas of Paschim Vihar, Vikas Puri and Janakpuri. As this is his first child, ‘sibling points’ is also ruled out for him.

Furthermore, the above parent alleged that he on many occasion has encountered and also approached by ‘agents’ of schools in regards to admissions. “When I spoke to one of the director of the renowned institution, I was shocked that he justified the demand of donation, ” he alleged.

2 violations noticed :-

 

1. Bal Bharti School Dwarka is asking for Rs.100/- as charges towards application processing whereas as per Govt guidelines a school can only charge Rs.25/- per application.

Today i was also in west delhi and dwarka and here is my observation and charges asked from me

1. St. Francis janak puri : 25 (form) + 200(prospectus compulsary)

2. S S Mota Singh janak puri : 25

3. N K Bagrodia dwarka : 25

4. St Thomas dwarka : 25

5. St Mary dwarka : 300 (form + prospectus)

6. Dwarka International dwarka : 300 (form + prospectus)

7. Bal Bharti dwarka (100 but only online form submission)

Guys all the best....  i know my fate...:) that i may not qualify for any schools near by ...still hoping against all odds...

 

I thoght the lucky draw was the better ...isn't

Maxfort Rohini is also forcing the parents to buy the form along with the prospectus for Rs 300/-

When the parents that they dont want to buy the prospectus, they said its compulsory..

just look at the notice on website.... there are two different "time" to sell the form with prospectus and without prospectus....

I agree with Anand. In fact the staff at Venkateshwara Global is also very rude. When asked for the form, one teacher told me to buy prospectus and that it was compulsory. When I insisted on buying just the form, the other teachers gave us a very disrespectful look (as if we were some downtrodden people) and said ok you can buy the form for Rs 50 but noted our Form No.. Don't know what does that mean?

 

WILL INSISTENCE ON BUYING JUST THE FORMS MEAN OUR CHILD'S FORM IS NOT CONSIDERED BY THE SCHOOL? HOW DO WE ENSURE THAT THE SCHOOL DOES NOT PLAY WITH THE FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN BECAUSE OF THIS MATTER?

Hi Parul - it is a question of Demand and Supply aided by unscrupulous politicians! You can either buy their form at whatever cost they tell you or go look elsewhere for admissions. I was shocked to find out today that you can actually get an EWS certificate for 10,000 INR - one of the touts outside of a prominent school was proudly telling me how he can arrange it easily and also make the school turn a blind eye to severe scrutiny (he accompanied a parent who disembarked from a Honda City went through the gates without waiting in queue - and got an EWS form filled in)! If I could list out what I've learnt over the last two days of going to various schools, there could be huge furore - I'm on the verge of giving up seeking admissions. Though I've already filled up forms for more than seven schools, my chances of getting through any are close to zero, specially since I have a single male child. No one said life's fair .. :)

What i can just say is that you should not loose heart with these incidents and keep up your efforts to seek admission for your child. Dn't think of giving up.

Hi Shival, would it encourage you to apply if you know that 90% of seats have already been decided behind the scenes? I viewed (personally) a "list" of names to be displayed Feb 1st - with promise of my name being considered for a "consideration" .. I cleared MENSA and Phi Beta Kappa. I'm quite positive my child will get through on his own in due course of time .. without my having to stoop (hopefully)!
