Form Dates | Admission Criteria | Results | Fee Details | List of All Schools
1. Distance from the school is the only criterion that affects a child physically. No other criterion affects the child physically. Criteria like siblings, transferable jobs, awardee parents, single parent and so on are just discriminatory.
2. If more children are sent to neighbourhood schools, all neighbourhood schools would have a chance to develop.
3. Eventually, people would become "proximity" conscious than "brand" conscious.
4. Siblings would stand a greater chance of getting into the same school as they will also qualify for the neighbourhood points like their siblings.

And what is 'neighbourhood" - rented, owned, purchased but rented out, HUF property. Who decides as to where you are currently residing? Rent agreements can be forged. You can start living in or around a school just for admission and then move back to your original residence once your ward is admitted.
Touts will exploit this situation with fake rent agreements and the like. Who will verify if passports are reflecting the correct address. If there is only one criterion then only chaos will reign.
You are absolutely wrong in saying that chaos will reign if we have only one criterion. You forgot to mention that people are also producing fake transfer and single parent certificates. Corruption is possible everywhere. But that doesn't mean we can't go for the best possible criterion. Let us not mix the issues. Corruption in admissions is a separate issue than illegality of the admission process. One is being dealt at the court level and the other will have to be dealt at the school level. The schools can always go in for the scrutiny of the selected candidates (which is a small number, anywhere from 60 to 200).
tell me why the children of East delhi/west delhi should be discriminated against south delhi children. neighbourhood is again a discrimination... no equal right assured..
Neighbourhood is not discrimination but it ENDS discrimination. Read the following comments to find your answer.
Neighbourhood means 'physically' living within 0-5 km radius of the school. Period. Whether you are living in a rented, owned, or HUF property is immaterial. This criterion is meant for the physical comfort of the child.
Neighbourhood points do not mean a guarantee to the admission in the nearby school. Just an advantage. It also doesn't mean that kids from 5-10 km distance cannot apply to the same school.
Let me explain this with an example. If there are 100 seats, 50 should be reserved for neighbourhood kids and should be allocated with a draw of lots. The remaining 50 for kids in the 5-10 km range. No child should have to travel more than 10 km.
A centralized form submission system with a single address attached to the child should also be put into place.
I totally agree with this range should be like 5 km and draw should be in front of parents..As if won't be this criterion then every one will be running after Brands in South delhi only nd that would rather lead to a chaos..So thumbs up for neighborhood points
I don't quite agree with this. I think all schools in any neighborhood are not equal, their philosophy, teaching methodology, fee everything varies a lot since they are all unaided by the government and hence they define what they stand for. Based on these criteria parents try and apply to certain schools which are most apt for them. Draw of lots will mean parents having to apply to schools without getting to choose anything except the distance. Instead of creating such random criteria like draw of lots, the govt should have invested money into creating schools for the underpreviliged so that EWS students can go to such schools. Secondly, the norms for the pvt unaided schools should be changes allowing them to increase the no of seats if they can propotionately increase the infrastructure like labs, no of teachers etc. This way they can accommodate larger no of students. Government should make it easier for people to come in and open schools, allow for profit education. That ways more people will come fwd and put in money to create good schools and hence increase the no of seats avbl. Setting up a draw of lots to get school admission is a completely absurd idea and is followed nowhere in the developed world. I am shocked that forums like admission nursery are also supporting such absurdity.
Under the given circumstances, distance is the best possible criterion and draw of lots is the best possible way to resolve a tie. Agree that govt should facilitate more schools, but that doesn't take away the argument that the existing admission process is illegal. Legality of the process and demand-supply gap are two different issues which should not be mixed.
Philosophy of school should be only one that is Providing education.....Rest fancy philosophies are good only for seeking admission from candidates who can give handsome amount of donation...Now how they are imparting that education should make school stand out rather than fancy mission and vision statements...
Can someone explain why we go a long way sometimes to buy a particular brand for an item? Because we know it is good, maybe the best. It is the same with schools. Why should kids be deprived of good schools just because there aren't very good ones in their neighbourhood? I do not agree with the neighbourhood criterion.
@Priya, would you go the long way daily to buy a good brand? Why torture the kids by forcing them to travel long distance? If kids can't express themselves, that doesn't mean you can torture them at your whim. In that case, you will be called a terrorist and tormenter.
