While submission of nursery admission forms came to an end for the general category in most city schools on Saturday, the process of forms submission is still on for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category. But if allegations by parents are to be believed, some schools are continuing to violate the guidelines issued by Directorate of Education (DoE).
A parent belonging to EWS category on condition of anonymity said, “A very reputed school in Dwarka has put up on its notice board that it will consider parents’ with an annual income up to `four lakh under the EWS category. This is so unfair. This category is not meant for rich people”. Notably Delhi Education Minister, Arvinder Singh Lovely had also clearly stated in a Press conference earlier that parents’ whose income will be `one lakh or less than it would only be considered in the EWS category.
Sumit Vohra, founder of admissionsnursery.com said, “ I wonder how the schools are continuing to violate the DoE guidelines. Inspite of DoE issuing notices to schools, how can they do so? DoE should take strict note of this”.
Parents from EWS category alleged that some schools are considering parents’ with income up to `four lakh per annum for the EWS category, whereas the DoE guidelines clearly asks schools to consider parents’ with an annual income less than `one lakh for the EWS category. Parents alleged that some schools are charging `25 for the EWS form, whereas according to the DoE guidelines it is meant to be free of cost.
A father of a three year old, belonging to the EWS category said, “ Rukmini Devi School in Rohini charged me `25 for the form and even informed me that I will be required to submit `200 as the admission fees at the time of admission. The schools are just cheating us”.
RC Jain, president of Delhi State Public Schools Management Association said, “It is illegal on the part of schools if they are charging any amount for the school forms from the EWS category. The schools are not supposed to charge anything as admission fees from the EWS category”.
