Please share your views whether the age criteria shud be 3 yrs + or 4 yrs + on 31 mar
we are getting mixed views regarding age criteria .some parents feel 3 yrs very small age
and others feel its perfect age as kids are very intelligent these days
pls share pros and cons

thanks bhawna..seriously i am also unable to understand why so much time and effort is wasted on age creteria....to me it looks parents are much worried about there own routine rather than kid's once schooling starts...
they talk of pressure .....i fail to understand what is the pressure that a nursery kid faces while going to school rather he will enjoy in company of other kids...and many are worried about childhood of thier kids..those are free to make kids sit at home and enjoy their childhood

I strongly feel that the age criteria should be 3+. Parents who feel their kid is too young are always free to wait for an year, but why would we force a kid turning 4 a few months past 31st march to stay at home till he/she is almost 5 !!! This would be much more unfair...especially when NCR admissions have already happened with 3+ criteria. Would kids staying in the capital be refused a headstart in life if they're ready for it? Do we realize that if the age criteria is made 4+, then we'll have kids of the same age in nursery as well as KG class. How fair is that??
The right mix is to keep 3+ as age criteria, and move the cut-off to Sep 30th. That way the youngest kid to join school is older than 3 1/2 years, and the oldest is less than 4 /12 years. I see that as the best balance
Otherwise for these parents it comes down to having their kids stay at home till they're 4.5 - 5 years old watching TV, or leave Delhi and move to NCR to avoid wasting an year.

i totally agree with you sir, and trust me the age limit will be either 3+ or 4+ as on 30th sep 2011 so those dreaming for 4+ as on 31st march 2011 should keep themselves ready for kid schooling rather than making senseless age creteria demands...

I STRONGLY FEEL THE AGE SHUD BE 4 YRS, BECOZ A 3 YRS OLD CHILD IS TOO SMALL TO COPE WITH THE BURDEN OF STUDIES AT SCHOOL. MOST OF THE KIDS ARE NOT TOILET TRAINED ALSO AND IN MANY CASES THE SPEECH IS ALSO NOT CLEAR. MY SON WILL COMPLETE HIS 3 YRS ON 18TH MARCH 2011 AND I KNOW HE STILL NEEDS 1 MORE YEAR TO STRIKE THE BALANCE BETWEEN SCHOOL AND HOME.

sorry to say but age creteria will not be decided on the basis of age of your kid only..firstly let me tell you that it wont be 4+ as on 31st march...secondly if you think your kid needs one more year let him sit and home..thirdly there are many of us whose kids will be almost 4 years after march 2011....

but most renowned schools do not allow admission to elder children. Amity, Father Agnel and all similer schools publish eligibility criteria as "those born between ..... and .....", so such people will not have choice. Ideally, schools must relax MAXIMUM permissible admission age by 1 year, while keeping minimum age at 3+. Do you not agree, Rahul?

I completely agree with Rahul and Sandeep. Many comments on this string attempt to make the worst case scenario as the norm. Children between 3 and 4 years of age are perfectly capable and willing to learn, and it would actually be a shame to have them sit at home while their peers all over the country get a headstart in life !!
I also find the way these guidelines are trickling in very confusing. First you tell me WHETHER OR NOT my child would get admitted (Communicate age limit first). AFTER that talk about how the admission would be done. How can the government keep silent on this critical piece which is causing significant mental suffering for parents every day. I have 4 newspapers coming to my home every day, and spend an hour daily to try and figure out if there's any word. They should not have waited all through the year and then make chaotic attempts at cooking something up within 15 days. The issue here is too critical to be taken up at the last moment. They should let this year go as normal..nothing has come crashing down in the last 3 years with the existing system in place..and take their time to improve the education infrastructure, and add more schools that provide quality education, instead of trying to force-fit a half-baked system

Dear fauzia, Rahul is right.
pls understand that once your child go to school he will automatically starts learning so many things quickly which u can not learn him at home because at home children are pampered and over protected by parents but once they started going to school they theirselves see that other children are doing activities
let me tell u, todays children are so active that they can learn the things as fast as elderly people.

I think the age criteria for nursery admissions should be 4+ for sure . Today's age children are smart no doubt , they catch and learn things faster but they should be left free with learning from fun activities , no studies . A routine is definitely required , for them to further catch up which can be done through play school . There should be no measuring their standard and intelligence and keeping them under pressure for any competition . Why the rush ?
