I think kids can be admitted at 3+ provisio shorter school timings for them. They can be in the school for 3 hours each day and have lots of games and fun activities with elementary education thrown in as a strict by-product of their being in school. The only problem I can see with a 4+ would be the disadvantage they would have viz the other kids across the country, though 4+ seems far more ideal.
It should be 4 years!! Children should not feel the burden from such a tiny age of 3.Only because we are not able to devote time, they can not be penalised by sending to school in the foggy winter mornings and hot summer, At least as a mother my conscience does not permit me to do so.

this should be 4+ because at the age of 3+ the child is too small for the duties to get up early in the morning and for the curriculum too.
Age Criteria should be 3 Yrs as on 31st March as many play school like mother's pride, bal bharti etc take 2.5 Yrs so the age limit should be 3 or 3.5yrs as on 31.3.2011 otherwise there may be a gap between play school & main school.
I believe, 3 years is too early but 3.5 or 4 years is ideal stage to go in formal school. As per my view we as a parents admit our child in paly school in the age of 2 or 2.5 yrs where a child can play and learn basic activities, I think one year is sufficient for play school.
The ideal age should be 4+ in a school. Its too early for a kid to start pursuing studies as soon as he/she turns 3 years. Let them have fun with more activities around and less studies at this point of time.
Without doubt, children are much more intelligent these days with so much information around them through surroundings, viz. TV, Internet etc., but considering their tender age to bear the pressure of school going, I would prefer age should be at least be 3.5 if not 4. As schooling is the first step in a child's life when he/she enters the formal world out of comfort of his/her home/parents. So before leaping into this next phase, which is going to get more complex at each further step, let them enjoy and take their time to be somewhat more ready for that. And referring to one comment which came in the 'Janpath' program also that at the age of 3 most of the children are not even ready for their physical needs (toilet, hunger etc.) then what they would they learn (knowledge-wise) if put into school at this age. Hence, considering all things in mind, I am very much in favor of age be set up atleast 3.5 or 4 and it would really be wonderful if that is implemented throughout country. And as some has raised question of late-sitter being left behind in the rat race, I don't think it (6-12 months) really matters in the long life of becoming a Good Human Being with right kind of upbringing and Love. And I am really thankful to and wish all the very best to Mr. Sumit Vohra for putting his best efforts to put this point across. Thanks-a-Ton!!!
The perfect age of child for schooling is 4+
I too agreed that 3+ age is quite early for a kid to start his regular schooling. Infact, till he turns 4, let him njy his childhood, develop basic skills & overall personality while going play school. Once he is ready with this strong base he can easily cope-up with the pre-defined syllabus of his regular schooling.

I feel that the age should be 3 years+. What happens in case you increase the age to 4 years plus? Who gains most? Where do parents send their kids? the answer is obvious - they do not stay at home. He would have to go somewhere.. the answer is "PLAY SCHOOLS"- these are no better than the normal schools, most of these so called Play School are actually Preparatory schools for parents wanting their Kids to join the so called Big Schools. THese schools also run their own Nursery Wing also. So, parents should not get emotional with the idea of 3+ or 4+ . As for the kids, in most cases it would be just the same.
Dear Arjun, You are absolutely right that if children do not got to formal school at 3 they will be going to play schools, but in that case, firstly, its not compulsory for every child to go there i.e.,play school and would not impact his/her admission in any particular class based age factor. Secondly, even if children are going to play school, they don't have the compulsion of getting ready in early morning to reach school by 8 or so. and thirdly, it would be very nice for kids who have someone at home to take care of them and who can make these kids learn small things at their own pace without being in any competition. What I believe, is that the ultimate goal of raising this point is not to see how schools are getting benefited but how children can be benefited and given a relief from a system in which they will be spending rest of their life.
