I endorse the views of parents recommending 4+ criteria..3 is a tender age, the atmosphere at the playschool and formal school is very different, the orientation of teachers, the teacher-student ration, the learning methods, the freedom to err etc is more in a play school..I feel if this foundation is strong one additional year at play school will pay in the long run..how many of us at this juncture in life repent or rejoice at the fact as to when we went to school..we always wish we were more mature..this definitely comes if we let kids bloom naturally and not hurry their mainstreaming!!
I also agree with somali and rashi singh and azhar view. 3.5 years or 4 years as on 31 march is the ideal age for the school point of view.
the age is not less than 4 year, why i m telling you, my daughter got admission last year and she is just completed that time 3 years, As per mu opinion we are playing with the our children future. When i visited school they clearly refused to take 4+ child. Why because they follow the norms of Govt. Whereas they are not following the Govt. Rule in the connection of "FEES ISSUE" This school is very smart in this connection.
i do feel that kids are small at the age of 3 but why should delhi children suffer.if a change has to be brought then it should b done frm next yr and if it has to be retained at 3 very gd.the child will adjust in environment soon.secondly, the nursery schools curriculum i strongly feel needs a major change.i should be without much writing in a friendly environment, learning poems, clay modelling, more activities,co-ordination toys etc.
I feel as a parent 3.5 yrs is the best time for a child . It should ideally be 3.5 yrs when the child starts going to school . However there should be an end to the whole dilema that we as parents are undergoing .It isnt so big an issue that it takes one whole year to sort the same out . Why cant our ministers not wake up at the right time
???

Moreover there should an uniformity in the age criteria across the country . They should not be the sufferrer in their later stages of higher education
3 years is too early for kids.... they still need parents assistance in so many things.... and sending them to school at this age is really putting pressure on their minds... The whole life they are going to study... lets give them at least four years of their life of peace and enjoyment.....
In spite of being calculating the Age 3+ or 4+ I advice it must be a simple format to be understandable by all parents. i.e. eg. if admission is for nursery class in 2011-12 session then the child should be born before 31st March 2008. This type of criteria fulfills all requirement and remove the cumbersome for the parents to calculate the age limit of their child (very much helpful for parents who are not full literate). Also such condition will also clear the confusion for the parents whom child are above age and for some condition they wont get admission in previous years.
The perfect age to start nursery education is 4+. The salient points for the same are the following:-
If one is migrating to a point system solely on the basis of distance then clearly one is looking at emulating the education system of the West without a second thought to the infrastructure (in terms of the quality of buses plying), the dispersion of schools within localities, a credible ranking system, the manner in which nurseries impart education etc. Thus, if one has to send a child to a reasonably good school then it tends to get very competitive at the nursery level. Thus, in such an ambiguous situation one would feel that the child, as well as the parents, would be better equipped to deal with the admissions at age 4. At that age, the child would at least be able to sit in the buses, classrooms etc. Our educaton system is also quite classroom based in nature and very few schools adopt the montessori methods. Thus, if a child has to sit in a classroom and learn academics through the rote method then 4+ is a better age. Good playschools on the other hand follow the montessori methodology which is beneficial to the child at 2/3+ ages. This is global trend and the Directorate of Education need to understand this in depth before coming up with adhoc guidelines which they have been doing every year. Otherwise, we are again emulating the West at a very superficial level without really understanding the impact of such decisions on the future of a young child.
i think 4years is perfect age, 3years is too small for a baby to put him/her in school.
school life need discipline and it is difficult for 4years student to follow it then how could we feel 3years old can do.
better to send him/her (less then 4years) in play school only because they learn something while playing.
4+ years to get ready for school, this would be very late start for kids especially borned b/w april to september. At the time they get ready for the school their age would be near to 5 which ends up in their late education ending & late career start. So criteria of nursery admission should remain to 3+ or max 3.5+ only as the new generation is already very smart & intelligent which I think nobody can deny :-).
Hi! My concern is for my son(Born May 2007) who will always lag by one month difference, even if it is 4 yrs as a Nursery criteria. I strongly recommend that the 31 MARCH criteria should change to 31 OCTOBER or 31 DEC....as that is what is creating an imbalance.
Second;y, I recommend 3 yrs as a beginning age for Nursery in order to match up with the global education criterion.
I think, the perfect age for schooling should be 4+ years.
