Points system discriminatory, say parents
Chances of securing a nursery seat in the Capital’s schools are proving to be extremely bleak if one’s child does not fall into categories like sibling, alumni and girl child, or in the management or EWS quotas.

With many city schools having released their first lists for pre-school admissions, it appears there is very little room left for the children belonging to the general category who do not secure points in these categories.

Many parents allege that the points system have come in the way of admission. The results announced by schools so far, the parents claim, give the impression that admission is a prerogative of only those who already have a sibling in the school or have parents in its alumni.

“I had applied at 22 schools in South Delhi, but could not manage to get even in one,” wrote Rahul Dhar, a disgruntled parent, on www.admissionsnursery.com, an online parents’ forum.

Dr Supradip, a scientist who had applied at 10 schools for his son’s admission this year, wrote: “Nothing left to share except a sorry figure... Not a single school offered admission to my son. He did not get selected because he is my first born and I am not an alumni of any Delhi school.”

The Directorate of Education (DoE) has allowed schools this year to frame their own selection criteria based on “just and rationale” means. As per DoE rules, the schools have to keep aside 25 per cent of the seats for students belonging to EWS. For the rest of the seats, schools adopted the points system. Most schools have reserved 50 per cent of the seats meant for the general category for the sibling or alumni quota.

For example, all 77 candidates selected by a reputed school in Vasant Vihar have secured points either under the sibling or alumni category.

Many schools have given up to 10 points for a girl child, which resulted in a clean sweep by girls in the general category at several top institutions.

Ashok Agarwal, founder of NGO Social Jurist, blamed the government for this crisis. “When you allow schools to do what they like, the consequences will always be like this,” he says.

Unless all these application criteria etc will not be centralised, thieves knows the loopholes. All schools forms, their criteria and draw of lots should be handled centrally - this will create issues for few parents who has extra advantage but if they go in society's interest, it will be a fair for all system. It cannot be solved if all these conducted at their own premises (school) and their own will. Same should be done regarding Fees and Development Fee(Donation)
The fact is 25% general seats are given to EWS and 20% to management quota.. so only 55% seats are left for general category...   and these 55% seats are going to alumini or sibling cases... First child, especially first boy child has least chance to get admission..... only way to get admission is give hefty amount as donation to secure seat in any good schools.. Schools are aware of this demand-supply mis-match and are asking for lacs for giving seats to such child...... in the first place 25% given to EWS is not a right move.. instead Govt should enhance the standard of govt schools... If KV schools can do bettter why not Govt Schools (Sarvodaya Vidyalaya).... Then 20% seats as management quota is full right to schools to sell their seats to anyone who will pay them good money........ Delhi Govt including the Deptt of Education is failed to form a good policy...... fail fail fail
yes it should be centralized...................like Delhi University
This is true I had applied in 24 schools in North West delhi got admission in Only One good school that too not schools of choice ... the choice schools the best like Bal Bharathi, DPS , Ryan International , Japlal Kaur, Mata Jai Kaur , Heritage , Mont Fort, APJ etc have gone to Alumni and Sibling as both were given high weightage and many of them are not transparent (that is they should give complete list in the time of infirmation technology they can easily come up with entire list even if is having 6000 + names and give a fair idea to each parent) , It should be considered that for people comming in niether of these category i.e. Alumni and sibling , have got very few admissions or none especially boys , and the huge gap between supply and demand should be quickly filled , this point system is not at all fair , better was old one where merit and other things were considered .

Point system was very dicsrimanotry ,no doubt

I have a single daughter still could not make while I have 5 school in radius of 2 km of my residence.

and i am not able to understand the points for transferrable job also..

Can DOE please explain logic for transferrable job or transfer case in case of nursery admission(If it in mid session or in any class where school is not taking fresh admission, then it can be understood)

You are right, points for transferable job does not make sense for nursery admission.
Point system is pathetic now.....can't we've some consideration for highly educated class

Only immediate neighbour hood and up to some extent sibling criteria could be understood, rest all are for making us fool..

many parents secured a seat for their child but still not happy as school are very far from their home

eg.my child goes to saket from lajpat nagar after travelling of 6.5 km

and one child is coming to lajpat nagar from malviy nagar traveling same distance

both child are tortured  because they didnot get admission in their preferred school..

but people who are responsible for all this mess ...DOE,GOVT .,School ..it does not matter to him

only little poor children and their helpless parents will have to suffer from this trauma..

I think

system should be centralised,There should be single form to be applied online preferrably

every parents should give their 10 -12 choices in the priorites order...

now on some centalised  genuine points ,like distance or sibling or something else could be workout(but criteria should be same for all school)..seat shold be alloted..

in such cases if there is tie of points ,still it will be very less number of lottery not like thousands..

If  parent could not get first preferrence if 'll definitely get amongst his 5 choice..

because one students can not block more than one seat..and everyone will be able to get its prirority..

its a just thought..but theme is something centralised can only improve the system

This is an eyewash. Even I have a firstborn boy and is staying just 200 metres away from the school . I did not get the admission . Some big schools have sold their seats at Rs 3.50 lacs per child . This will lead to opening many private schools by the government like How Government is going to pass the bill for free permission to Foreign Varsities in India . Now Government and schools got a reason of Huge Demand Supply Gap . So prepared to shell out crores of funds for our kid's education in the upcoming years .Enjoy the game of School lobbies.
@Krishna: I think single boy child parents should look at it this way .. set aside 1 - 2 Lakh donation for your first child for peace of mind of your second child. If second child is a girl, get her into one of the best schools and the elder brother can follow. Else, the second kid can always join the first under sibling quota :). Govt is encouraging siblings in Delhi see?
Yes Centralised Admission System is the only solution.
@Lathaa: Schools mint money through sale of brochures (they could impudently charge 500 INR in spite of strict guidelines from the Govt to charge only 25 INR). Seriously, what chances are there for a central admission system to see the day of light???
