Well, try you may, but you cannot escape it here: School rankings are always controversial. Over the past few years they have proliferated, not just in the media, but also thanks to think-tanks and to blogs and elsewhere on the Internet. Some rankings will throw a surprise result.  You might not have even heard the name of the school, and it would be there in the top-slots on some parameter or the other. 

Some would term them futile, some would vehemently argue with one aspect or the other. Most, however, will agree that it is better to make your own criteria, and then rather focussing on rankings, comparing nearby school on those criteria would result in the best conclusion.
