As the race to get a seat in nursery hots up, complaints against schools are also piling up. Within six days of the sale of nursery admission forms, the website of the Directorate of Education (DoE) has already received 105 complaints.

While complaints range from refusal to give EWS
category forms to points being allotted for parents’ profession, the most common complaint is against schools refusing to sell application forms without the costly prospectus. According to DoE guidelines, the maximum cost of forms cannot exceed R25 and it is not necessary to buy a prospectus.

“I went to five schools in north Delhi and was refused an application form without prospectus in all five,” said Mahesh Shandilya, a resident of Shalimar Bagh, who is seeking admission for his son.

Scores of other parents too are going through the same ordeal. “I was mocked and asked to apply in government schools if I refused to pay R500 for the prospectus. It is not about the affordability but about principle. Why should I buy the prospectus when I don’t need it?” said Chetan Tewari, who did not wish to reveal the name of the school that sold him the prospectus.

According to DoE officials, these complaints are coming up in huge numbers each day.

“We are trying to take action and pass orders against all schools that are harassing students. Some schools have made nursery admissions a means to fill their pockets,” a senior DoE official said.

Parents are also venting their anger online. “This problem comes up each year. Those who are ready to fight may get their rights but for others, paying thousands of rupees is the only option,” said Sumit Vohra, founder, admissionsnursery.com, an online forum for parents.

Its very true that almost all schools in North Delhi are forcing to buy costly Prospectus, which is commonly Rs. 500/- for all.

Most of the schools are also not providing details of facilities and not allowing to have a look at class rooms and washrooms etc.

It is an open secret that Directorate of Education is hand and Glove with the schools. Believe me no action will be taken against any of the schools, as most of the schools are of corrupt politicians.

very true we are forced to shell out money many school are asking for 500 rupees for the prospectus if you just ask for the form they are refusing to give you just the form . just narrating here what my husband face while buying the form for Lancres convent prashant vihar rohini.

1)He was told that there is no form available without the prospectus.
2)After purchasing the form he was told that the fees for the school is Rs 6000+Rs2000(transport)
3)A young girl sitting on the counter was showing a plycard saying that the parents have to pay Rs 50,000/- for getting an addmission into this school

dosen't just stop here once you are in the school there is never ending demand for money for this and money for that

There is a school which i would not like to name, which gave me two receipts, one for Rs 25/- and one for Rs 225/-(for prospectus which was on a CD). Some have the information about the fees and other details in the prospectus, so you end up buying the prospectus... Thank god that our parents didn't have to go through all these hassles.

Its really very True. Not even in South delhi...West Delhi have same problem.

GD Goenka, DWARKA is strictly not giving any forms without prospectus and charging Rs 500/- per form.

To my surprise , they asked me to give 3Lacs in CASH if want to book seat for KG(4+).

Really they do not feel any kind of shame and instead say its ONE time Investment by you for your child. Really horrible..........

Jatin Mahindroo

we cant do much against school's mafia; with point system mafia became more strong and demanding money openly... on most of prospectus there is no content only school activity photos.... this is a story of good schools where we feel our kids will get the best education and discipline but doubt wht they learn there.
