New Delhi: Tilllast year, parents used to be all set for their child’s nursery admission by November-end after the schools put up complete information about the admission criteria and schedule on their websites. This year, however, both schools and parents seem to be staring in the dark since there is no word from the directorate of education (DoE) on the new nursery admission guidelines yet. Schools believe there may be a messin sightif DoE does not issue fresh guidelines right away. They say thetimeleftfor the admission procedure to begin is not adequate to make preparations. As per the schedules followed last year, the sale of formsin schoolsshouldbegin from December 15.According to schools, interpreting new guidelines, designing the prospectus, preparing and printing the application forms and consulting the management committee at different levels takes at least a month. ‘‘If thegovernment knew it all along that the right to education had to be implemented from 2011-12 session, why did they wait till the last minute to frame new guidelines? We can’t be ready for the admission procedurein a singleday after the DoE releases the new set of rules,’’ said a principal of a well-known school whodid notwishtobe named. Suraj Prakash, principal, CRPF School, also said that the guidelines should have been ready by October. ‘‘We willhaveto prepareour application form as per the new guidelines and also inform parents accordingly. The preparations for nursery admissions take around six weeks every year. Parents are feeling harassed as we have no information for them,’’said Prakash. The guidelines issued by HRD minister Kapil Sibal on RTE on Tuesday suggesting admissionsthrough a drawof lots was a talking point at the meeting of the National Progressive Schools’ Alliance (NPSC)— a body of nearly 110private unaided schools — on Wednesday. Most principals said they were clueless about the plan of action as was being thought out by the state government. L V Sehgal, principal, Bal Bharati School, Ganga Ram Hospital Marg and vice-president, NPSC, said, ‘‘Members were all confused as nobody was aware of what the admission procedure is going to be. Schools are just waiting as they can’t initiate the procedure without DoE’s approval.’’ Though the point system has been followed for the past three yearsin thecity, the new system of admission can be either completely differentor may retain some parameterslike alumni and sibling. ‘ ‘Government should at least tell us by when the guidelines will be ready. If we have to resort to draw of lots for admissions,it’s going tobe really difficult. We get 5,000-6,000 applications every year,’’ said Ameeta Mulla Wattal, principal, Springdales School, Pusa Road.
