Children born to inter-religious parents will have added advantage this year in nursery admission as several schools are planning to grant additional points for their diverse social and cultural background.
Extra points may also be awarded if the parents are involved in any sort of community service or environment saving activities. Headmistress of Cambridge School, New Friends Colony Anu Behl Roy said the idea behind the move is to create tolerance among children at primary level.
“If it is possible, the school should have students with diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds as only then can the school educate the child in the atmosphere of real India with its vast diversity. It will also help make the child tolerant to other cultures, adds variety to classrooms and the child experiences these different cultures on a first hand basis,” she said.
She further added a child brought up in such a background can become an asset to the society much like his/her parents. In some schools this time, the children are being awarded points if the parents are involved in any sort of community service or environment saving activities.
Another criterion for which points can be awarded is on the basis of compassionate grounds, Roy said, “In some special cases when the child is an orphan, or has lost one of the two parents, or if the parents are suffering from some physical problem, the child can be awarded points.”
Several other schools are also considering creating categories on the similar lines but they are waiting to Department of Education’s final guidelines for the nursery admission this year. One of the schools in the Capital, which are ready with innovative point systems, is Sri Ram School having similar point system. However, Sumit Vohra, founder of admissionsnursery.com does not seem impressed with the arrangement; he said these factors may be much effective in the end because higher points are allotted to alumnus of the school and sibling category. “Sibling and proximity-- two factors greatly enhance the chance of the child’s admission, as a lot of points can be gained because of these categories. The neighbourhood is also very important. Every school has a determined radius; if the residence of the applicant comes within it the child can gain a lot of points.”
The guidelines for the nursery admissions are expected to come out by the first week of December, after which schools will accordingly formulate their own individual point system to select the new admissions.

Dear Parents,
If alumni points are kept same as 25-35 and then 5- 10 points to intercast marriage or parents involved in community service wont help.
Unless the weightage of Alumni is reduced to 5-10 points and these points are incorporated in ,it might be useful for some parents.
Good judgement Sakshi Mam.
Thanks Mam:)
@Deebba,do you think they will do away with high alumni points
Giving points to children born to inter religious parents does not make any great difference and only 1 % of total seats should be allotted. As Mr.Vohra said alumni and sibling children get a large slice of pie out of the total seat.
RTE Act insists no children should be discriminated on social and cultural background and schools have again started to give points based on this category where children of parents engaged in social, health, education, research, environment, sports, art and law may benefit. Apeejay termed it as RAA category and no seats where left for general. If it exists where will a common average parents find a good school for admission of their kids.
Admission process is going to be more cumbersome than last year. DOE should come up with a uniform point system which is not going to happen and I understand MoU must have taken place between Education Minister and Pvt. Schools.
Already Govt. has passed order that disability and orphans will come under disadvantage group and no points need to be allotted for them in general seats. Feel worried that school heads are ignorant of the updates of education department.
GIVING POINTS ON THE BASIS OF INTER-RELIGION MARRIAGE IS TOTALLY BASELESS AND WITHOUT ANY REASON AND DISCRMINATES PEOPLE ON THE BASIS OF RELIGION. KEEPING POINTS ON THE STUDENTS OF GALLANTARY AWARD WINNERS PARENTS IS ALSO TOTALLY BASELESS. WHY EXTRA POINTS ARE GIVEN TO THE PARENTS RESIDING IN NEW FRIENDS COLONY ? WHAT ABOUT PARENTS RESIDING NEAR SRINIWASPURI SCHOOL WHICH IS ABOUT 1.5 KMS FROM NFC. WHY POINTS ARE NOT GIVEN TO THE MEMBERS OF OLD STUDENTS ASSOCIATION OF CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL. WHY CLARITY IS NOT GIVEN ON THE PARENTS WHO HAVE COMPLETED EDUCATION OUTSIDE DELHI. WHAT WILL BE THE FATE OF THE EX-STUDENTS OF CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL ON SUCH A DISCRIMINATORY POINT SYSTEM BASED ON LOVE MARRIAGE AS INTER RELIGION MARRIAGE CAN ONLY HAPPEN IN CASE OF LOVE MARRIAGES. IT IS BETTER TO SAY EXTRA POINT FOR LOVE MARRIAGES.
WHATEVER BE YOUR POINT SYSTEM THE CLARITY OF EACH POINT SHOULD BE GIVEN WELL IN ADVANCE. IF NOT THAN BETTER TO SAY THAT PERSON WHO WANTS ADMISSION TO CONTACT DIRECTLY TO THE MANAGEMENT.
May God save Delhi's nursery admissions!! As I pointed out earlier, the simple solution is to keep 80% of the general seats exclusively for area and distribute the remaining among non-area categories. Also, management quota should be restricted to 1% of total seats (i.e. EWS+General). The situation right now is that almost 99% of general seats have been cornered by alumni, sibling and transfer categories. As somebody pointed out on this forum, Delhi is now a cosmopolitan city and it should be willing to give space to new people and ideas. But right now, a few have cornered most of the nursery seats in the city.
