8,000 schools disclose data online after CBSE order

NEW DELHI: Over 8,000 schools so far have complied with the mandatory disclosure clause which was issued by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on October 25. The deadline to submit all details is November 30.

In all, CBSE has 18,179 affiliated schools, of which over 13,000 have partially submitted the data online, said sources in the board. They added that while some schools are ready to submit all the data to the board, others objected to uploading the salaries of teachers with their names online.

However, CBSE chairman Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi claimed that no school had expressed unhappiness over giving data under the clause, adding that the need for reforms was triggered by a parliamentary committee meeting and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's direction on using GIS technology in mapping examination centres. The PM had said that putting information about the centres online would help schools, parents and candidates in locating them easily.

Speaking to TOI, Chaturvedi said, "The information about the centres will not be available on the mobile app till we feed in all the required data". Till now, nearly 45% of the schools have submitted the complete data. The chairman said that as most schools seemed to be following the applicable salary scales under the state government rules, they should not shy away from sharing the details. "We are asking for the disclosures primarily for the parents and students. As they are paying the fees, they need to know about the services."

He added, "From these disclosures, parents can choose a school-keeping in view their economic condition, their location and their choice of schooling. They can also find a school when they shift to another location," he added.
