UPPER AGE CUT OFF - PARENTS SUFFERING AS SCHOOLS FLOUTING NIRSERY GUIDELINES

Fixes upper age limit for nursery intake

In violation of the guidelines for nursery admission for 2015-16 session, some private schools in the city have kept upper age limit making it impossible for children, who could not get admitted last time, to make the cut.

A case in point is of a private school in Shalimar Bagh that has kept three years as upper age limit for admission to pre-school classes, four years for Kindergarten and seven years for class 1.

Some parents said that if this will continue then their children might not get admitted this time either.

“My four-year-old daughter didn’t get admitted last year and this year the schools have kept upper age limit. Where are we suppose to go?” said Letika Ranganathan.

“How can schools flout norms with such impunity. The authorities should do something or else we will be left with no choice but pay exorbitant donations to get a seat,” she added.

To bring the issue to notice, a child rights group has written to the Directorate of Education asking the department to stop schools flouting norms.

“We are getting plenty of complaints. Parents who couldn’t get admission last year are feeling helpless as majority of schools have kept upper age limit of four years,” said Sumit Vohra, founder of admissionsnursery.com

As per the Directorate of Education 2007 order, schools can only fix entry level minimum age limit, Vohra added.

Earlier this month, the DoE had asked schools not to go ahead with the admission process since the matter was in Delhi High Court.

According to the guidelines issued by an umbrella organisation of private schools, the general category got only 25 per cent seats.

The committee suggested reserving 25 per cent seats for EWS categories, up to 20 per cent seats for sibling quota, five per cent seats for alumni and staff quota each.
Also, schools can reserve up to 20 per cent seats for management quota.

Happy New Year 2015

Fixing upper age limit - a loophole for management seats. All such applicants could not get seat last year and this year also because of age limit, may be under scanning of paid seats.Nothing can be important for a parent than the education of their children. Once parents like Mr. Ashok Aggrawal can be victim of paid seats, imagine what will happen to others who do not have any source other than pay off.

While the above might have paved the way for paid seats, some parents may opt for illegal methods to get their wards admitted. Parents are seen approaching agents for arranging fake documents.

As regards EWS/DG category, it is another alarming situation. Parents are just rushing to apply without being rational. Imagine number of parents residing in Pitampura, Nazafgarh, Vivek Vihar, Mayur Vihar, Badarpur are standing in queues at DPS Mathura Road. What is the logic. This is what lack of knowledge and awareness among parents. Most of the schools will fill up their 25% EWS/DG seats within 1 Km or upto 3 kms only. Analysis can be asked for from the schools.

The government should fix the criteria for maximum 6 kms radius under EWS/DG category. So much rush for free seats on the basis of fake documents or documents arranged otherwise - a moral downfall of the parents. How is it possible to survive by a family of atleast 3 members within 4,5,6,7,8 thousands per month?

I appeal to this forum to raise this issue of free seats for fixing distance limit to apply - upto 6 Kms only.

I was just watching few prominent schools parents saying "de do EWS ka farm, koshish karne me kya harz he". I explained the criteria and policy of EWS seats, but to no avail.

Pathetic condition. Mr. Vohra, plz do something as you have been doing.

Once again wishing u and your team the very best moments in the days to come.

Hello Sevakaram

I agree with you all gen cat is suffering and only Mr Vohra is raising issues of Gen Cat. Yes 100% u r right 6km limit for ews.

Ashok agarwal paid donation but he is lawyer and also ex aap party worker and in all court cases against schools why did he pay donation.

This is an unethical practice,,,

Even I am facing the same delima.
