Some parents spoilt for choice

Ashpreet Sethi, New Delhi, Feb 6, 2012, DHNS:

While most parents are awaiting the second nursery admission list, some are spoilt for choice.

Some parents in Delhi have been lucky as they had the option of getting their children’s admission done in multiple schools but are confused about schools that do not fall under the best 20 category.

Shobit Bose’s daughter’s name is on the first list for nursery admissions across three reputed schools in Delhi — Manav Sthali nursery wing, Cambridge and New Era schools. “I am still contemplating but I stay in Inderpuri so I might choose a school which is near my house,” said Bose.

Shilpa, resident of Motibag is confused whether she should send her child to Modern School or Holy Child school, Vasant Kunj. “My daughter’s name has appeared on four schools’ lists but I chose Modern and Holy Child as they are the best. However, I am not sure if I will be able to bear the expenses of sending her to Modern School as the children there have expensive habits. I come from a middle-class family. I do not want my child to compare her lifestyle with others,” she said.

For Pushpinder Singh Kohli, Bhatnagar International school is a preferred choice: “New Era and Manav Sthali are other schools where my son’s name has appeared. But Bhatnagar International is the best option as it is only five kilometers away from my house in Rajouri Garden.”

Moreover, many parents have addressed concerns about schools toeing different norms for fee refund, in case the admission is withdrawn. “We have got several queries from parents worried about fee refund as many schools in Delhi have put up notices which state that fees will not be refunded once admission is done. This is a major concern and parents are also scared. But parents who have got only one seat, do not have an option,” said Sumit Vohra, founder of www.admissionsnursery.com, a website for parents.

Meanwhile, several parents, who have been struggling to get their children’s admission done since last year, have now lost hope.

“I tried in 26 schools this year but my daughter has not been selected in any of the school. Last year also I applied in 21 odd schools. I have sent 30-40 faxes to Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely and several letters to the Directorate of Education to inform them about the injustice done to parents. But no action has been taken so far,” said Arti Jain, who has lost hope after failing to secure a single seat in two years. “I am ready to pay for the management quota if the need be,” she added.

Most of the schools will not come out with the second list since they fill the vacant seats before that. Here comes the centralised point system and admission process Mr.Vohra is insisting the DOE to implement where the admission process would really become a transparent one.

Hi

i have a mojor query that my kid is in a waitlist in dps rkp. but tel me how do i know that whether they will come up with a second list, coz everyone says that none of the schools come up with a second list and they fill up their vacancies before the second list. Hansraj Model  School

St.Thomas

and few DPS schools

go ahead and talk to them....

Nursery admissions is a pain to the parents....not sure when this will end up...and every child will get a chance genuinely to get their basic right.....We also went through this trauma and submitted the fees in a school near to our house...not the best :( but atleast a place for our daughter..hope the politicians and corporates will come out from their shell of money one fine day and schools will realize they should not do a business rather give what they have been formed for.

Please rank the following schools - Mira Model, Janakpuri, New Era Junior - Rajouri Garden, RD Rajpal Dwarka, Basava Dwarka.
