Why draw of lots in nursery admission be not held afresh?: HC

The High today asked the city government to inform it why draw of lots in nursery admission be not held afresh for all seats under neighbourhood scheme instead of just for those seats which were vacated after inter-state transfer category was scrapped.

Justice Manmohan asked the counsel for the government to take instructions from the directorate of education and listed the matter for further hearing tomorrow.

The court was hearing a plea against city government's decision to do away with the system of allocating points to inter-state transfer cases of children seeking admission in nursery classes here.

Delhi government had on February 27 issued a notification scrapping the inter-state transfer category under which it used to give five points to children whose parents have been transferred to the national capital from another state.

The notification was issued by the government after it admitted in court that there was misuse of the inter-state category.

The petition challenging the February 27 notification as being "totally arbitrary and unjustified" has been filed by Major Saurabh Charan and some other parents who have sought quashing of the government's decision to do away with the inter-state transfer category.

The petition has also sought directions to the government "to confirm the list of successful candidates/applicants including the children of present petitioners published by the schools prior to the passing of the impugned notification/ order..."

In the alternative, they have sought that draw of lots be conducted afresh for all seats under neighbourhood category by cancelling the entire draw held prior to February 27 and not just of those children who had availed of the benefit of the inter-state transfer category.

Under the earlier system, out of the total 100 points, 70 were given if the child lives in the neighbourhood of the school, additional 20 were given if a sibling is studying there, five points more if either parent is an alumni and another five points if it is an inter-state transfer case.

Those having 90 or more points are directly admitted while the rest have to undergo the draw of lots for admission.

see 1 km extra points will mean only say 35% seats are filled. then other slab of 8 km will give chances of draw to all and chances are much higher than as ppl with 1 km points wont run filling forms in 20 schools.but wats d use...we r not LG or govt :D

you mean to say only people residing near vasant valley or similar reputation school should be able to get admission there, i dont think i still feel equal opportunity should be there. its my take you may not agree on this

1 km doesnt mean that all seats are filled by nearby ppl... it just mean that it will reduce chaos for admission wen most ppl get admission jst nearby...there r really few fools who r creating chaos in the name of best schools fr their child and not a nearby good school.

first sibling, then alumni, then EWS, then girls quota, then 1 km do you really think others will have chance

All are suggesting their own guidelines according to their own interest as they all are LG of delhi.so my request is to our President to elect one LG among them to end this endless process.

good idea!!!

since hearing is continuing from last 20 minutes in item No. 36 of court No.9. Sakshi mam, hve u any update

Guys any news?

Sitting in office but cannot concentrate on work. My daughter got selected in one school out of 23 applied. Not sure if she will get admission this time if there is a redraw for all. But i can also understand the feeling of parents whose child is not yet selected. I can just pray that there is no redraw for All the seats (My personal opinion).

any update from court?
Sakshi mam hearing has been finished in court. Plz update the decision of court.

Re draw...justice done with transfer cases finally... also its really painful for parents already selected, though tht draw was not completely fair without transfer applications.

Sakshi already published this, check on main page :

DOE REFUSES TO  CHANGE ITS GUIDELINES

HIGH VERDICT 7 Mar-COMPLETE REDRAW ON EVERY PLACE WHERE EVER TRANSFER POINTS HAS BEEN ABOLISHED (WHETHER AT 90 POINTS OR AT 70 AFTER REMOVING TRANSFER POINTS)
