Nursery Admissions in Delhi NCR 2024-25

Admission Dates | Admission Criteria | Compare schools | Fee Details

Why so much hue and cry now?? No one spoke when the admission criteria was issued

STATESMAN 10 MAR Parents are requested to read comments first and see last 3 year history and then comment

I feel we Indians have a peculiar problem of getting into blame game.. Right now I am doing the same by blaming everyone :)

When the admission criteria was announced, no one uttered a word and everyone went ahead and filled applications.. As the results dates came closer, each criteria was discussed and everyone had his or her version for each criteria (obviously as per individuals comfort level). Bottom line is everyone wants the criteria as per his or her liking.. We have created the mess and not the government. At the end it is some or the other kid in question and someone will have to accept the fact.. Rules can't be customized as per everyone's liking.

Will just park few thoughts (For reference):

1) Neighborhood - I stay 20 KM away from DPS RK Puram or Vasant Kunj? Should I file a case on grounds of equality and my right etc that I should also get equal chance to get admission in this school and all other reasons? Many more reasons for each parent.

2) Transfer - So one who has spent entire life in Delhi, should they shift to other states for admissions as migrants are getting additional points? Many more reasons can be given.

3) Alumni - I wonder if it is the fight for very good 'popular' schools or average schools.. Will anyone raise questions for normal schools?

4) Siblings - Basis arguments discussed on Forum of dynastic etc, Alumni makes it dynastic but sibling doesn't for future?

What I feel is everyone has their own versions depending on their fulfillment of criteria.

What's disappointing is we have created a mess. It is the shortsighted parents who wake up when they find their kid may not get admission in this list and few parents supporting such issues.

AS A PARENT WHEN THE CRITERIA WAS ANNOUNCED, WHERE WERE THESE PARENTS TO RAISE QUESTIONS?? NOW WASTAGE OF 1 MONTH IS TAKEN AS 'NOT A BIG DEAL' FOR SOME PARENTS.

I have also applied for 20 plus schools and have not got admission for my son anywhere. But this mess created by SO CALLED INTELLECTUAL PARENTS is not taking it anywhere..

AND I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THE COMPETENCY OF GOVT WHO ARE MAKING RANDOM DECISIONS..

IT MAY HAPPEN THAT THE WAY OUR GOVT WILL ISSUE NOTICE THAT THOSE WHO DID NOT GET ADMISSIONS ANYWHERE WILL BE GIVEN ADMISSIONS IN THE BEST SCHOOLS OF DELHI... :)

there will always be a patrent who will be ready to pay Re.1 more than your offer, then wt will you do ?

you will not get seat that way too.

SHRUTI , LOT OF PARENTS MADE WRITTEN REPRESENTATION AGAINST DEC GUIDELINES.

BUT THE BASIC PROBLEM IS THAT ANY NEW GUIDELINE OUGHT TO HAVE BEEN PREPARED IN CONSULTATION WITH ALL STAKEHOLDERS. LG MADE NEW GUIDELINES IN HASTE WHEN MR ASHOK AGGARWAL WENT TO COURT (ONCE AGAIN AT THE LAST MOMENT).

SCHOOLS WERE NOT CONSULTED , PARENTS WERE NOT CONSULTED. IF SCHOOLS WERE CONSULTED THEY WOULD HAVE SHARED PAST DATA AND ADMISSION PATTERN.

SIBLING, ALUMNI ARE NOT OUTCAST BUT DUE TO PAUCITY OF SEATS LIMIT HAS TO BE PLACED ON THEIR QUOTA.

ANOTHER PROBLEM IS OF HUGE RADIUS OF 8 KM WHICH HAS RESULTED IN LOT OF APPLICATIONS. STAGGERRED POINTS FOR DISTANCE SUGGESTION WAS REFUSED BY LG.

THIS YEAR NURSERY APPLICANTS ARE TEST DATA FOR NEW GUIDELINES.

SIBLING RESIDING BEYOND 8KM IS NOT GETTING ADMISSION- HOW FUNNY. SCHOOL BUS IS COMING TO PICK ELDER CHILD BUT NO ADMISSION TO YOUNGER SIBLING AS SUDDENLY 8KM ISSUE HAS COME UP.

IF PROPER CONSULTATION WAS DONE THEN ALL THIS SCENARIOS WOULD HAVE COME UP IN CONSULTATIONS.

MR ASHOK AGGARWAL SHOULD ALSO BE MINDFUL THAT HE SHOULD NOT GO TO COURT FOR NEW GUIDELINES JUST BEFORE START OF ADMISSION PROCESS. RATHER HE SHOULD HAVE PRAYED TO COURT FOR CONSULTATIVE APPROACH IN FRAMING NEW GUIDELINES.

WE SHOULD STOP BLAMING COURTS AND START PROTESTING TO LG AND DOE. IT IS THE COURT WHICH REMOVED MGMT QUOTA WHICH RESULTED IN SOME EXTRA SEATS.

PLEASE VOICE FOR PARTICIPATIVE APPROACH RATHER THAN KNEE JERK REACTION.

Hi Sachin

I agree with you except sibling points

*Disclaimer I am blessed with only one child
As every parent wants both children in same school.as when the second child come he will get benefit of todays  fight of every Parent with single child.
Mr Ashok Agarwal supported us in Dharna  and stood in court against us with Transfer points parents :(.
I lost my confirm seat in very prestigious school.
BUT IN LAST SHRUTI IS BANG ON TARGET .WAS EVERYONE SLEEPING TILL FEB .
WHY EVERYTHING NOW ?

Picking your point - Every parent wants siblings in same school.. Just a thought eg.

First kid get admission in an average school.. Luckily after few years 2nd kid is lucky and circumstances favoured and the 2nd kid get admission in say DPS RKP. Will you still go with your sibling funda??

My only point is there are infinite criterias but it cant be customised as per everyone's liking..

Nice thoughts:

Hope my son will get admission in Nursery 2114  session :)

THIS IS BY FAR THE MOST REASONABLE UNDERSTANDING OF THE CHAOS. WE NEED TO LOOK FORWARD TO END THIS MESS AND BE IN A WIN WIN SITUATION.

Excellent piece Shruti!

Both the initial write-up and your reply. Thank you for a refreshing and rational view.

You are right. Most of us supported LG's guidelines when they came out in Dec 13. We were happy with doing away of management quota, simplification of the guidelines and applicability of uniform guidelines across schools.

Though nowhere near perfect, the guidelines are much better than earlier years. We have come a long way from the time when parent's money or clout used to decide the admission, from the time when little kids had to face the interview, from the time when parents had to participate in group discussions or face interviews and from the time when some schools gave points to certain professions, some to government servants and the like. And these guidelines would further be improved in succeeding years.

But ironically, these guidelines have faced the most vociferous protests, not at the time they were issued, but when their effects were known. And having the benefit of hindsight, we started our tirade against the LG.

Paradoxical it may sound, but to me it appears that the basic reason for the protests is the simplicity of the guidelines. Earlier every school had its own criteria and the resultant complexity did not lead to creation of distinct interest groups. But this year, due to uniform application across schools and non-complexity of guidelines, there are clear interest groups -- the 70 pointers, the alumni, the siblings and so on.

The root cause of the problem remains the poor state of government schools. Unless this is addressed, demand supply gap would remain and no guideline would make everyone happy.

I agree with you that it is not the 'top school' that would decide your child's future but the effort you and the child put in. In this regard, an experience shared by a parent ( by Sakshi Pandita on April 21, 2010) on this site is moving. I am providing a link:

Very well written. I totally agree

Spot on Shruti.

Now this is off topic. But every parent is on the forum during Nursery admissions; they ask for school's feedback, fee strucuture and so on. Once the admissions are over, most dont come back and share the feedback of schools in which their kid got admission. Their is a silence. Then again new parents come trying to know same things. I hope parents will share their feedback on schools and wont be on this forum just during the admissions but afterwards as well.

Thanks Sunaina.. Reality Check.

Sunaina you have rightly said. I would like to crystallize 3 little words "SEEK, SENSE, SHARE" to our parent community. In which SHARE has gone missing. After admission parents disappear from this forum and few parents reappear just to seek info for second child. Parents can help a sense of unity and belonging and help other parents by just providing their ideas, experiences, feedback and fee structure of respective schools they get their child admitted.

Parents can go through this link which can prove how helpful you can be for other parents

@Lathaa Manavalan. You and Sakshi ji might want to creat a new forum/group wherein parents can give their inputs on the schools chosen by them. It may help future parents to find parents feedback at one place.

thanks...
