Hi Aditi,
Views on Mirambika vary from parent to parent. It is mostly for parents with a "creative" bent of mind & those who are ok with their child going to a unconventional school. Mirambika grows on the students & becomes a way of life. I am personally extremely impressed by the school. They have absolutely fantastic fundamentals & the children passing out of the school grown up to be confident individuals with a mind of their own. I have heard students refuse to go back home after school because the kind of space & freedom they get in school is not accessible to them at home. The school also expects tremendous parent involvement & thus with both working parents that tends to be a problem sometimes.
But on the flip side, students with siblings studying in other regular schools tend to get confused with their way of education & no uniform/no bag culture. The school also does not go uptil the 12th standard which makes it difficult for students to get admission mid stream.
However I suggest you go look the school up & take a call.
Thanks sadaf! I have gone through the website of school & highly impressed with it. We are also planning to visit the school. We have also called them up once but they are not entertaining us at all. Still we are planning to visit the school. How do you know about the school? I have heard that getting admission in Mirambika is very difficult. Do you know any parents whose children are studying in the school & with whom we can talk? Hope i am not troubling you with so may questions. But i really want to know about it before coming to any conclusion.
it is a fantastic school...but totally alternative. no curriculum, no classroom, no schedules, bells, discipline. ofcourse they have a method and philosophy to make this work. I was very interested for my daughter when we were looking for schools last year. we met a few kids who have studied there...all fantastic, very thoughtful, intelligent and very grounded. many get into research, artistic and socially conscious fields...they certainly dont churn out the corporate types...but its not that they are not smart enough for it.
the school campus is one of the best i have seen - open airy huge green
we did not get admission there...but if we were really into it a bit earlier then the thing to do is get involved in the school from now...go meet the administration principal and also the parents regularly and you may have a better idea of the school and a better chance to get in...with just 12-15 seats i think
I agree with Vandini. We tried last year for our son too but could not manage a seat. They have very few seats & prefer siblings & neighbourhood children. We met a few parents who were all praises for the school. I would like to quote a girl who had moved to MIS after completing Mirambika, she found the regular curriculum less daunting after being in Mirambika because according to her in MIS they gave her exams based on what they had taught the students in class & that for her was very easy. She asked why can't regular schools let the children find a problem & then look for a solution on their own. What's the point of testing students on the basis of what they already know. Why not let them experiment & research & find solutions to problems! It's a fantastic school. Unfortunately Delhi does not have the culture of such alternative schools, down south there are so many.
