This is the reason "herd mentality" is making nursery admissions difficult with every passing year. If we assume that there are 3000 parents in Dwarka/ near Dwarka areas (within 8 KM) and everyone applies to 30 known common schools in the 8KM radius to increase their chance, we will end up with a probability of 0.01 (30/3000) for each kid for every seat. By contrast if it is restricted that everyone can apply to a maximum of 15 schools in a 3-5 KM radius, there will be less than 300 parents (density of Dwarka is 19000/Km2) with each kid having a probability of 0.05 (15/300) for every seat. Just for information, last year there was 8KM criteria and the number of applications in some well known Schools were: DPS = 4700, St. Francis = 3800, Bal Bharati = 4,200. @Heidi, we cannot have a solution if only a handful of parents follow the approach of applying less, this can only be implemented if the guidelines makes it compulsory for everyone to prioritize and apply rather than "spreading too thin" across the board

I dont understand how applying to 30 school is harming anyone.

I agree on distance thing, its wrong on parents part to make 3-4 year old travel 15 kms daily. But not every one is fortunate enough to live in localities like dwarka which has 25-30 good /decent schools in 8 kms radius.

I ve applied in  25 schools for my 31/2 year old daughter, all schools in <6 kms radius.

I know parents from last few years who didn't get any school after applying in 15-20 schools. I realize even with 25 schools, there is a chance that I won't get shortlisted in any school. If that happens I will continue her in play school, n try for kg admissions next year.

As parents we just want to do our best.

@Nitin
Do you think that if I fill forms in 5 schools instead of 20, my condition would be more favourable. We all know that no new schools have come up in Delhi in last 10 years and population has been increasing every year. Therefore, we must accept that it is something which is not in our hands.

Applying in more schools by all parents just for the sake of applying without inclination will create a situation where the number of applications per school will increase extraordinary, most of the schools have already received 1500 to 2000 applications. This was the same scenario last year, which resulted in only a handful of kids getting admitted and multiple options for some while no option for others. Then the schools get a chance to negotiate for management seats as the "potential" demand highlighted by number of applications exceeds limited supply. The parents who were involved in 2010, 2011 admissions will vouch that most of them applied to a smaller shortlist of schools, averaging about 400- 500 applications per school thereby every kid having multiple options to choose from the shortlisted schools. Over the past year, the number of applications received per school have increased manifold due to uncertainty associated with nursery admission and the relaxation of the distance criteria. This creates an imbalance as the seats per school have not increases but average applications per school have increases disproportionately.

@Ranjan
Rightly said that more forms = more chances of getting selected.

Tommorow is the last date for most of the Dwarka schools for submitting the nursery forms. And, Rs 25/- is a meagre amount for applying in as many schools as possible. I also feel one needs to fill atleast 20 forms.

Is dwarka international a better school than delhi international?

Dear All,

What are the parameters by which this list is derived? looks to be more driven from pure academics and transparency in admission process. Will be keen to understand.

Thanks in advance

Comment by Shivshankari Sethu on January 4, 2015 at 1:01am

@ lokesh

I submitted form in maxfort on 24 the dec n received a call on 26th sto come for interaction. When me n my husband met them on 27th, they offered us seats if we pay ~rs 70000(fee, not donation ) by Dd/po, we'll have an assured seat. But they also said any written Proof of admission will be given only after 6th Jan.  - so that's the case with maxfort.

I guess we have almost similar preference list our kids. That thread was started by Heidi. Thanks to her.

I ve heard from my friends, after the draw/list display process is over, many schools start calling not-shortlisted candidates themselves for selling management seats.
