the growing intolerance among communities, castes and groups that make up our great nation.
Literacy, while opening up the entire world to these sections may also alienate them from their basic cultural strengths. SMCS was started with the sole aim in mind to ensure that children recognize the strengths of their own ethos. . . and build up their life and character on those.
Education at SMCS relies almost exclusively on activity based learning and continuous & comprehensive evaluation. We are bothered about the declining awareness among the children about their own cultural backgrounds. We aim at the acquisition of aesthetic and cultural sensitivity of each child on the campus, which is successfully done by the excellent, thorough sensitization and training of all teachers. Thus, here at SMCS, both Summative and Formative aspects of the child’s personality are enhanced and groomed.
The school is affiliated with CBSE, Delhi and follows the 10 + 2 scheme. The curriculum has been designed keeping in view the age group of children in each class and their heterogeneous mental level. It attempts to promote the development of understanding of basics, sharpening of thinking abilities, experimenting and exploring this activity based curriculum is planned to help each child to enjoy his schooling and meet his individual potential.
The traditional emphasis laid on cramming, memorization and stuffing of children with knowledge has been totally dispensed with.
St. Mary's Christian School is a composite, Co-educational School, which is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi upgraded upto Class XII with Science & Commerce streams. It operates under the direction and control of the St. Mary's Christian Educational and Charitable Society (Regd.) through the Managing Committee of St. Mary's Christian School, Sahibabad. Besides achieving a high academic standard, we seek to create an open & Creative community where all students are valued and all are supported and challenged to be the best they can possibly be. Our community is based on honesty, integrity and responsibility borne out of mutual respect.
THE HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
The Foundation stone of SMCS was laid by His Excellency Dr. Patrick Nair, Bishop of Meerut in the year of the Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, the 15th July of 1995 during the glorious reign of Pope John Paul II as the Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church.
The school is headed by Mr. John Vianney Sharma, the Founder Principal who has a very vast expereince of 30 yrs of teaching and administrative field in various schools and institutions of high repute and glory like St. Xavier's School of Kanpur. Ingraham Institute, Ghaziabad, St. Anthony's Schook, Paharganj, Delhi, Delhi United Christian Sr. Sec. School Delhi and Green Fields Public Sr. Sec. School Delhi. He is the guiding light and the moving spirit behind the rapid growth and progress of the school. The chief architect of its success story, Mr. John Vianney Sharma has been steering the destiny of the school since July 1995.
Since the school was opened there have been significant changes both in the local area & in terms of the School itself. The school has had a history of being significantly oversubscribed in that it attracts students not only from its closeby areas but also from far situated places.…

Our founder Mr Sumit Vohra is an IT Professional (B.E Computers and MBA) having more than 30 year's experience in I.T industry. He is consultant to prestigious Educational Organi
10 kilometers away, he chose a “decent one” in the neighbourhood. The gamble paid off. The four-year-old boy was too shy to talk but is now the most popular
kid in the class. He can spell words using phonetics, loves judo and, with many classmates living in the neighbourhood, has a hectic social life even after school. His dad, of course, is the happiest.
The school is only a 10-minute drive from home.
I also know others who went through the difficult, tiring and very competitive process of nursery admissions. One even faked a rent agreement to show he lived in the vicinity of a very sought-after school to gain points under the neighbourhood criteria.
Apparently, there are so many parents faking their residential addresses that schools have started physical verification to detect the fraud.
Getting a seat in an elite school was never easy. All through my growing years, I heard stories of parents paying huge donations to get the coveted seat. One of my neighbours was euphemistically asked to send his child in a brand-new bus on the first day to school. I know many parents who tried political connections or tapped their networked friends.
Following extensive litigation against such class-bias in selection of children, we now have court-mandated rules for nursery admissions. The Ganguly Committee report accepted by the court in 2007 prohibited all testing and interviews of children and their parents, recommending that schools decide a child's eligibility based on a 100-point scale.
Recently, schools have been allowed to set their own admission norms and most follow the point system that rewards girls, students with older siblings in the same school, children of alumni and those living in the neighbourhood.
Others have devised their unique criteria. According to Education World magazine, some schools offer points to parents who had participated in the Asiad and Olympics or who are employed in certain government service.
These have not made life simpler. By rewarding points to children of alumni, some elite schools screen out parents who did not go to such schools themselves. Most parents still go through the grind of applying to 10 schools and more to secure the best for their children.
According to a 2011 survey by Credit Suisse, Indians spend more on education than Russians, Chinese or Brazilians. But in a status-conscious Delhi, the admission race is not only about education. Here, the name of your child's school is as important as your residential address and the brand of your car in determining who you are.
So out of Delhi's 3,000-odd private schools, only about 100 are in real demand. With no mechanism in place to ensure basic academic and infrastructural standards in schools, parents quickly avoid options that are not “established” yet.
As far as the “established” schools go, Delhi has not added many to its traditional list because no concessional land has been allotted to schools since 2003. Those schools, which were granted plots earlier, did not follow the mandate of providing seats for poor children. So the government stopped doling out land altogether.
In the last 10 years, most new schools came up in Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad, resulting in a skewed supply in Delhi.
Regulating the admission process is necessary. But as long as schools, both government and private, are allowed to operate without meeting basic standards, the great nursery rush will not ease in Delhi.
Elite brands are in demand everywhere and will always be.
But parents should also have the option to trust neighbourhood schools.

ore with a majority of schools slamming the CBSE’s move to scrap the re-evaluation facility for Class 12 students from next year, terming the move unjust to students who would end up being a victim of “human error”.
Earlier this week, R.K. Chaturvedi, CBSE chairperson, had announced that the governing body had given its assent to the scrapping of the existing re-evaluation facility, but a system would be put in a place so that “genuine cases” get looked into. Students until now could seek fresh evaluation of their Board exam answer sheets in 11 subjects and were allowed to apply for a copy of their answer sheets and challenge the evaluation of up to 10 questions by paying Rs 200 for each.
Analysing the implication of the CBSE’s move, Sumit Vohra, founder of admissionsnursery.com, a Delhi-based education portal, said, “Class 12 board exam results decide a student’s future in the contemporary cut-throat world of competition where every decimal counts when it comes to getting an admission in country’s best colleges. It is unfair for students if the re-evaluation system is scrapped.”
Priya Dhall, principal, Dehradun Public School, Ghaziabad, said, “Last year, over 10 students in my school had been granted 7-25 marks more after re-evaluation. The process of evaluation prescribed by CBSE includes several levels of examiners who check a single answer sheet. First the answer sheet is evaluated by an examiner, then by the assistant head examiner. The head examiner is responsible for cross-checking the answer sheets checked by the examiners, but is not liable to go through all the sheets. So the head examiner checks only 8-10 sheets evaluated by every examiner.”
Dhall added, “My experience is that a lot of teachers do not take this job seriously. There is too much pressure on them since a single teacher has to check hundreds of answer sheets on a single day to meet the deadline.”
Speaking about the “injustice” to students, S.K. Bhattacharya, president, Action Committee for Private Unaided Schools in Delhi, said, “This is a matter of transparency. If the board feels that their evaluation system is foolproof, then allowing re-evaluation should not be a problem. Until and unless these mistakes, which are human, are corrected, students will suffer.”
However, Ameeta Mulla Wattal, principal, Spring Dales School, Pusa Road, supported the CBSE’s move, but criticised the shortcomings in the current evaluation process. Wattal said, “The re-evaluation process has become exhaustive over the years. Earlier, re-evaluation meant looking for calculation mistakes only. But in 2014, the three-tier re-evaluation system was introduced which allowed students to see their evaluated answer sheets as well.” Wattal highlighted the lack of uniformity in allotment of marks in board exams and questioned who decides how much marks should be allotted to an answer. Wattal said, “The immediate need is to revise our evaluation process. That is where the fault lies.”

hink again. You'll be surprised to know that it is more like a battle and that you have to start preparing your child for it as soon as he starts walking!
Kids as young as two are now reportedly taking coaching classes.
Why you ask? Well, because some schools are flouting legals rules and screening kids and even parents, in some cases, for admission to pre-school classes. A report in the Huffington Post suggests that in order to get their wards admitted to the 'best schools' Mumbai-based parents are shelling out lakhs of rupees and sending them to coaching classes.
Shockingly enough, starting post three years of age is not considered good parenting, because by then your child has already crossed the 'basic learning stage.'
Hidden under the rug
Shushed under the garb of teaching kids about general knowledge or about how to converse, experts suggest these classes are not limited to just Mumbai, but are very much available even in the capital city.
We spoke to Sumit Vohra, founder of admissionnursery.com, the biggest community on nursery school admissions, who revealed some shocking statistics.
"All schools that take interviews, although it is not allowed in Delhi under RTE but some do so in a hush-hush way. In fact, they undertake profiling of parents and ask about their profession or qualification, designation, yearly income and some even ask about the mobile handset they may be using to gauge the financial status," shares Vohra adding that these schools the then crosscheck whether the facts given by parents are correct or not by asking for PAN numbers and/or visiting cards.
"However, we must know that in many schools of Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad this practice is allowed and continues with interviews of parents as well as the children," he says.
Pressure on parents
Vohra adds that such interviews are not just stressful for the kids, but most importantly for the parents.
"Parents are under tremendous pressure as one cannot anticipate whether a three-year-old might become cranky or might not respond properly at the time of school interview. Some kids even get scared or cranky and are anxious as to why their parents are preparing them for interview at home," he adds.
"The playschools also prepare kids, but some people have started special courses in institutes that charge a handsome amount. My suggestion is for parents to remain away from these institutes. Remember that playschool preparations is sufficient for kids' school admissions," he explains.
Questions asked during such interviews
Vohra reveals that kids are often questioned about some color, or toy, or shape or a vegetable, for instance.
"They also ask kids to recite a poem of his/her choice, phonics or three-letter words, they are assessed on their reading or counting abilities as well as their abilities to solve puzzles. They are also observed for any medical problem or separation anxiety, toilet training and funnily enough schools even enquire about the car that the family owns," he shared.
www.theindusparent.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/school-copy.jpg?resize=670%2C445&ssl=1" alt="" width="628" height="417"/>
Vohra also explained that such interview often lead to increased anxiety among children. "Almost 99 percent kids are taken away from their parents and so while some kids end up crying, some become very sleepy as the interviews overlap with their afternoon naps," he adds.
Such interviews, especially now that nursery admissions have started are only adding more pressure and stress on parents.
Psychological effect of such interviews
"It seems that parents have become involved in a rat race and the pressure of competition has taken over the better of them. The first instinct of any parent in this situation is to refuse to send their child to a school that scrutinizes their kid at the tender age of two and three," explains Seema Hingorrany, Mumbai-based clinical psychologist.
She adds that many times this competition leads to parents becoming angry at their little ones and that in turn adds more pressure on the child. "I can test a child's IQ best when he is between the ages of 8 and 10 years. So testing a kid at this tender age cannot be a benchmark for his intelligence," explains Hingorrany.
She says that a child's intelligence is a reflection of his emotional and psychological well-being and over pressurizing the child can often lead to depression and push them over the edge, in many cases.
"So many children these days are increasingly becoming victims of depression and drugs at just 10 years," she says, adding that letting the child be and grow at his own pace is the only way to help him grow harmoniously. "What matters at the end is how your child is shaping up, emotionally," she says.
