e and wish that all of us get the best of all for our child...but i feel one major difference between them is the extra curricular activities...like swimming pool, gym, skating etc...these kind of activities r not available in DPS...but one thing more i wud like to know everyone's thought on...whether we shud let r child travel for 12kms just to obtain school brands....or we shud prefer to luk out for equivalent alternatives....near to residence...is it fair to make ur child travel for 1-2 hrs one side on daily basis...a 3 yr old child is too small…

the guidelines of Directorate of Education (DoE), issued last month. It was only a couple of days ago that show cause notices were issued by the DoE to BGS International School Dwarka, VSPK International School, Rohini and Prabhu Dayal Public School, Shalimar Bagh for putting up guidelines which apparently violated the DoE rules for admission on their website. Again some schools, Bal Bhawan International School (Dwarka) and Prestige Convent Senior Secondary School (Rohini) were found to be flouting guidelines designed for the pre-nursery admissions. "A distribution of points by the schools in the distance or neighbourhood criterion are not in line with the guidelines," said Sumit Vohra, of admissionsnursery.com who claims about keeping an observant eye on scores of schools in the city who are arranging nursery admissions for the session 2014-15. In an updated admissions code by DoE, schools should also contain points for a number of terms such as school alumni, siblings, distance and transfer case. According to the guidelines, admissions are to be routed on the 100-point system. Out of this, 70 points are to go to children living within an eight kilometres (km) radius of the school. However, Bal Bhawan International School at Dwarka was found manipulating the admission criterion on the distance condition by fragmenting the distance points area-wise. The official website of the school points that applicants staying nearby Dwarka sec-12 (0-1 km) which apparently includes Dwarka Sec - 11, 12 & 13 will be given 70 points, within the radius of 1-4 km which includes all Sectors of Dwarka and Dwarka Mor will be given 50 and beyond Dwarka (4-8 km) which includes Uttam Nagar, Najafgarh, Palam 30 points. Prestige Convent is also found flouting the L-G guidelines on nursery admissions on the Neighbourhood criterion. The school is offering 70 points for the radius of 0 - 6 kms whereas guidelines ask for the neighbourhood points to be given to the children living within an eight kilometres radius from the school. Although, the school authorities are maintaining that it is done to give a leverage to the kids living in the nearby area. "The admission criteria is decided by the school authorities to give maximum benefits to the kids living near to the school," added an official from Bal Bhawan International School.

within the radius of “more popular schools” in Delhi-NCR for the sake of getting admission to their kids in their favourite schools, showing increasing anxiety among them towards their children, according to a recent analysis by the apex industry body, ASSOCHAM. The Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) recent survey on “Nursery admission procedures are taking away the innocence of pre-schooling” reveals that this trends are more visible in parents who have a rented house in Delhi-NCR. Over 21 percent of parents who are on rent have already shifted to the areas with more number of “famous schools” like Dwarka, Vasant Kunj, Rajendra Nagar and Rohini. Further, it reveals that others are planning to shift to areas where the concentration of 'good' schools is higher and are searching for one. Meanwhile, Sumit Vohra who runs Admissionnursery.com said, "Every parent should be aware that all of them who are changing their domiciles should have atleast six months old rent or lease deeds and those should be court registered." However, the survey, conducted on 2,500 parents in Delhi-NCR reveals that many parents are intending to move to Dwarka, Vasant Kunj, Rajendra Nagar, Rohini etc. as there are number of schools within its vicinity. Currently, proximity to school-or 'distance'-is the criterion which carries the highest number of points, reveal the majority of parents. “Nursery admission has become an anxiety-ridden mission for parents seeking to secure a seat for their tiny tots in reputed public schools due to limited number of seats”, said Mr. D S Rawat, Secretary General, ASSOCHAM while releasing the paper. Mr Rawat added, “For parents it is a sort of a wild shot as even after shelling out so much of money on admission forms there is no certainty that their child will eventually get through that school." The neighbourhood criteria has made parents rush to shift house so that they can be within three kilometres radius of the school, a distance that will get them a full 20 points, points out the survey. Also, the survey adds, there are over 3,000 public schools in Delhi which normally sell prospectus, containing details about admission processes in their respective schools for a sum of Rs 500-800. “Increasingly rising price of admission procedure in most of the privately-managed schools in metro has deterred the budget of even well to do families. Education is now being run like a commercial business enterprise these days”, added Mr. Rawat. As per the chamber estimates, over 60 million children are studying in private schools charging hefty fees and having fallen through a lopsided government-approved points-system, many parents are being forced to opt for management seats that cost around Rs 1.5 lakh and more. Some parents have no option unless take a loan. Nearly 28 percent said they are trying to get a personal loan. Some of them are already paying for a home loan and it is extremely difficult to survive under such circumstances, added the respondents. About 65 percent of the parents said, there are areas also with no popular school within a two-three kilometer radius. Parents in these areas feel that they should be allowed to apply at schools where their kid can travel and take on responsibility of picking and dropping of their children. On the other hand, nearly 28 percent of parents said, "It's not possible to just pack up our bags and move”. They are very much willing to arrange for transport but still does not get the points for distance.

hey were asking. I was pleasantly surprised by their school infrastructure - it is no lesser than any moderate private school. I met a class 10th Maths teacher there. The gentleman took the time out to not only help me, but also patiently answered questions of other parents (most of whom were illiterate). He was having to repeat himself a lot but was extremely patient and caring! He told me how stressed out they were and how much extra work they have to do compared to Private schools. Not only that - they're also held responsible for producing results and are answerable if students do not perform decently well. I don't know whether this Govt school is an exception or just an apparation. But if the other schools are even 75% of what I saw here, I must say the Govt has done a commendable job. The only problem I can see is lack of environment for students to study in (at home?) and peer guidance for the children. The only possible reason we might not send our kids is the environment. The infrastructure and faculty seem to be first rate and more than eager to help .. anybody else here taken the pains to visit a neighbourhood Govt school? Or did I see too much into my first and only meeting?…
