Amar Ujala - 4 Nov -

Nursery Admissions - The Hindu 4 Nov - “We anticipated that the schools will go to court to bring back the management quota but we never expected them to go so early. Now we don’t see admissions happening soon as another hearing under the Right to Education is scheduled to come before the Supreme Court on November 14. And since we also expect the courts to take some time, we expect that the guidelines will come only by December,” said Sumit Vohra

Getting your child admitted to pre-K no nursery rhyme for harried parents

With another year of confusion over nursery admissions due to the delay in its guidelines, the nightmare for parents seeking admission for their three-year-olds has only just begun. Parents are sick with worry as they are anticipating a significant delay in the admission procedure. There is now a sense of panic among parents as after getting a sudden ray of hope with the Directorate of Education’s positive reaction lately, a dark cloud has again set upon the admission season this year. Most parents are dreading that the nursery debacle will snowball into the same chaos created last year.

Areej Khan, a mother of a four-year-old boy and resident of Central Delhi, said that she had already started looking for schools to apply to after hearing that the guidelines will come this week. “It all just seems like a waste now. Last year also my son couldn’t get in and now after a year wasted again I’m standing on my toes worried whether my son’s fate will be the same this year or not. This year we really felt that the guidelines would come out soon, especially with the way things were moving. We were even alright with only the neighbourhood and sibling quota remaining, as reports had said. The really worry is not what the guidelines are anymore but whether admissions will take place or not,” said Khan.

Similarly another parent, Veenu Arora, from West Delhi’s Ramesh Nagar, tried last year and didn’t manage to secure a seat for her son who just turned four. She said, “In normal circumstances, first week of November wouldn’t be the time to worry about nursery admissions but now it is actually a worry because of the mess last year. We just want that things move smoothly. But if before issuing guidelines only so many issues are there,  once guidelines come it could be worse.”

Sumit Vohra, founder of admissionsnursery.com, added that everyone is so scared about what happened last year that a panic situation has risen. “Parents are just thoroughly confused and a little anxious about this year’s admission season,” he said.

However, principal of Springdales School Ameeta Mulla Wattal said that there was nothing to be anxious about right now. “It is only the first week of November. Guidelines were never issued before December in any case. People are definitely more concerned this time but I think we need to have some faith. The judgement will be out soon and after that guidelines will be issued. There shouldn’t be much delay,” she said.
