To begin with, why did we as parents choose GDGPS for our children?

We had moved from A’bad where my daughter was attending grade 7 in a very good school that laid a lot of emphasis on discipline, good habits and sound Academics while my second daughter was to start formal schooling. To find a similar setup was proving to be very difficult for us here as school of gurgaon were at two ends of the spectrum. On one hand there were the IB board and IB styled schools that claimed to lessen the burden of education by imparting activity based curriculum and on the other were the traditional schools that emphasised only on academics. We needed a school that could balance between the two extremes.

We also wanted a school that kept our children grounded; that could help them develop confidence and equip them with the courage to make correct choices.

We wanted a school that encouraged free play; that motivated them to take up some sports and maintain a fit and agile body.

And so our hunt began. We visited 3 – 4 schools. Most of them spoke the same language and more or less they all had a fair number of students to prove that they were sought after by the parents.

We visited G D Goenka on the recommendation of our friends & colleagues. Our observations:

• It had a very positive feel about it. It was very welcoming.
• It was nicely tucked away from the noise, risk and commotion of the main roads.
• The campus was spread out vertically so all areas were in eyes view.
• There were separate blocks for children of different age groups.
•  Though the it was a relatively newer school at that time in comparison to others, yet it did not have any signs of being one. The campus was alive with so many children! They all looked so happy. The teachers were totally involved with them.
• All the facilities; and believe there are many; were all operational.
• People handling the parents, addressing their queries; assisting them with forms; taking for campus rounds- all were quite in sync with each other and there was no discriminating information.
• The interaction of parents ( there was no interaction with the child. A relief!) with the Principal was enlightening. Aspects of school education in totality, right from the primary years to the senior secondary years, were explained well. What are the requirements of children at different stages of development, how they have to be prepared for transition from one to the other, how to generate interest in studies, in sports, in co curricular activities and what and how the school is doing all this, was covered.
• We felt that when the school has such a clear cut view of education in modern times and has a well thought out plan to implement the thoughts; it will be good for our children. I felt that the school would be able to perfectly compliment us in the upbringing of our children. And so we choose G D Goenka Public School in Sector 48.

We are a happy and satisfied parent as we see the plan being aptly implemented on a daily basis. What was shared is what is being done on ground. We are among those parents that put faith and trust in the institute that is nurturing our children and so we do not interfere unnecessarily but always share our feedback. There are ample forums within school for that. Lines of communication are always open and so we feel safe for our children and intend to stick to it till our children pass out of 12!
