and alumni points should not be included as here we r discriminating the kids .................based on right to education if parents education income n all this is not imp then why from which school parents have passed out should be considered.

I think it should be 0-1 km 1-5km  5-10km

@ Dr. Poonam, if good school is not important then we parent are running behind them? and it is truth. Every body's objective is to get admission in Good school irrespective of points.

if we leave this 'Good school' criteria then I am 200% sure that every child will get admission and this race of admission will stop. We says that don't put pressure/competition on 3-4 yrs old child but see what we are doing with them ? We are ready to send them 10 kms away every day and for what --- A good school..

ideal distance is 0-5 kms. that's why I am forcing less points on distance.. We should stop torture of our innocent children

i agree with Nipun...

distance point is very imp as parents are not thinking about the child..they are thinking for the best school only. i think 10 km is max for the school. if it is 20 km it is really too far for a 3 year child.

what is the criterion of admission in christian minority schools, like how many seats reserved for christian community and for general...

Yes, we do want our kid(s) to go to the best ranked school, and even though it is a popular choice, it is not always the first choice for all parents - this is where distance, and siblings heavily weigh our decision. From the School's perspective, it is their responsibility to ensure that the criteria is drawn giving a fair chance to all, and not to favor a few.

Schools do have a preference for alumni's kids at times, but the same seems to be the most unfair criteria. While, I am not completely against a management quota, but the same needs to be capped at a very low %, so as to accommodate the genuine cases, and not be used for exploitation.

In the end, we will still have schools with much more applications than seats available - and it should be decided by draw of lots. But the draw should happen in a transparent manner.

And, this is where the State should be able to step in - to ensure reasonable caps/threshold on schools' criteria and to ensure a transparent process.

I am a very worried parent whose child needs admission but it is rightly said Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)", hoping for the best for every child and parent.

@ Draw Lots is not a good solution as it leads to empty of seats in school and School authority can't do draw lots again and again....
Draw lots is uncertain method.
