NEW DELHI: The cost of violating the new nursery guidelines is an instant show-cause notice and a visit from the authorities. On January 4, the Directorate of Education (DoE) issued show-cause notices to three schools-BGS International School, Dwarka, VSPK International School, Rohini, and Prabhu Dayal Public School, Shalimar Bagh-for posting a distribution of points not in line with the guidelines.
A statement issued by DOE on Saturday says, "The Directorate of Education ... issued show-cause notices to these schools, seeking an explanation." The deputy directors of education of the districts also visited the schools to "verify the allegations". Sumit Vohra of admissionsnursery.com had complained.
The statement says, "The principals of these schools, in their replies to the show-cause notices, have admitted their lapse and expressed regret for inadvertently deviating from the orders of the DoE. They have rectified the errors and further assured that they will henceforth strictly abide by the policy regarding admission to pre-primary classes in schools as notified." The statement ends with a warning, "All private-unaided schools have been advised to strictly follow the policy regarding admission to pre-primary classes in letter and spirit."
Till last year, schools were allowed to devise their own points system and parameters. This year, LG Najeeb Jung, in his December 18 order, abolished the 20% management quota and fixed both the criteria and points. Some of the show-caused schools had altered some aspects of the guidelines, especially the assigning of 70 points to neighbourhood. Schools that haven't posted the guidelines on their sites are not accepting them either and have sought a stay from the high court. The matter is likely to come up for hearing on Monday.
A STATEMENT BY THE DIRECTORATE OF EDUCATION SAID PRINCIPALS OF THE SCHOOLS HAVE EXPRESSED REGRET
NEW DELHI: A day after Hindustan Times reported that some schools were flouting nursery admission guidelines, the Directorate of Education has issued show cause notices to these schools.
A s t a t e m e n t i s s u e d by the directorate said, “The Directorate of Education took a serious note of these reports and issued show cause notices to these schools seeking their explanation on the matter. Further, the Deputy Directors of Education of the districts concerned visited these schools on Saturday to verify the allegations made in this regard.”
Hindustan Times, on January 4, had reported that three schools, namely BGS International School Dwarka (which changed the online notification a day after parents complained in an online portal), VSPK International School, Rohini and Prabhu Dayal Public School, Shalimar Bagh had put up misleading guidelines on their website.
O n S a t u r d a y, V S P K International School wrote to Hindustan Times and said that the website of the school was under construction for the new academic session 2014-15 and therefore any lapse which was noted on the website was due to a technical glitch.
The statement issued by the Directorate of Education, however states that the principals of all three schools had admitted to their lapses and expressed regret.
The issue was first highlighted on a portal for parents - admissionsnursery.com - by parents.
“A number of schools have flouted the guidelines in the past as well and most of the times action has been slow. This sort of misinformation hurts parents as it increases their anxiety,” said Sumit Vohra, founder, admissionsnursery.com.
According to the guidelines issued by the Lieutenant Governor this year, all schools have to follow a centralised points system, whereby 70 points out of 100 will be given for the neighbourhood criteria, 20 for sibling in the same school, five for alimni parents and five for interstate transfer cases
