Being a parent is the most joyful and exciting moment that comes in the lives of both, men and women. However, rearing a child to become a good human being gives satisfaction that you carried out your responsibility perfectly. Read to find out whether you possess the signs of a good parent or not.

Parents play a big role in shaping the character and personality of their children. A good parent is one who is capable of importing right values and virtues to his or her children. So, if you are worried whether you are a good parent or not, here are top 10 signs to help you judge yourself.

Top 10 Signs of a Good Parent

If you think you are a good parent you must be possessing most of the following qualities:

1.You Show That You Love

Parental love is the first thing that every child expects and deserves in life. But, they understand love only through hugs, kisses, cuddles and words. So, you should express your love for them as often as possible. This will make them feel secure about their relationship with you and help them become confident to solve all kinds of problems in life.

2.You Spend Quality Time

The best gift that children anticipate is spending time with their parents. Even though household responsibilities and office work takes major part of your time, you should take some time out and spend that with your kids exclusively.

3.You Allow Age Appropriate Responsibilities

Right from the time your child is a toddler you can allow them to handle responsibilities. Taking up responsibilities like keeping toys in the toy box will make them ready for bigger responsibilities when they grow older.

4.You Reward The Right Way for Good Things

Almost every parent rewards his or her child when he does something good, but doing this in the right way conveys the right message. This will show good behaviour in them.

5.You Do not Criticise Kids for Bad Actions

Criticising is not going to make the difference. If your child does something wrong, it is important you understand he is growing and explain him what was wrong and what would be the consequences. For example if your child beats his friend, instead of pointing him wrong, explain what he did was wrong.

You Be involved in Your Child’s Life

6.This means being there to support your child physically as well as mentally always. For this you need to rethink and rearrange your priorities.

7.You Avoid Harsh Punishment

No matter how angry you are, you never hit your child. There are many other ways to discipline children and you can make use of one of them if necessary.

8.You Treat Your Child with Respect

No matter what the age of your child is, he too needs respect. Also, the best way to get respect is to give respect. Always speak to them politely and respect their opinion.

You Listen to Your Kids

9.Even if your child is disturbed and aggressive, you ask him to explain things calmly and you listen to his problem peacefully as well. Also listening to their thoughts, ideas and opinions will help them become confident in decision making.

10.You are a Honest Parent

Being honest before your children is also very important. Do not praise your child falsely just to keep his mood or excitement. Appreciate the effort and guide them towards overcoming the shortcomings in whatever they have done. This will encourage them to excel in whatever they do.
Raising the child in the right way is very important. After all you are shaping the next generation. Imbue the right qualities in them so that intellectual curiosity, motivation and desire to achieve get promoted in them.
