Hi Sakshi and other parents,

Wanted to seek opinion from you and other parents if there is anything significant missing or needing a material improvement at Shriram Aravali when compared to Heritage(cbse), which may help us take our decision. The better heritage campus is something which we already know. And when I say things needing improvement / missing, I am talking about those which are related to the growth & development of the child and not the different boards that the two schools have to offer.

Payal

To be honest, No parents in past have choose Heritage over Shriram Aravali in previous years as per my knowledge on this forum.

I agree it is riding on past glory  but parent feedback and legacy the core values ,balance of experiential learning with academics , keeping kids disciplined, security, fostering respect for our heritage and culture along with fantastic academic results. Also check for both schools, as how many made to Ivy League universities .

Rest parents are requested to share inputs.

Thank you Sakshi. We are in a catch22 situation, having got through both in Heritage (cbse) as well as Shriram Aravali. One thing which we are clear about is that, irrespective of the school, the child will opt for IB from 6th standard. My husband has Heritage and Shriram as his 1st and 2nd preference, while for me its Shriram 1st and then Heritage. Request other parents to kindly share their inputs, as it will help us in our decision-making and arriving at a consensus. Many thanks.

@Payal

My take is 1st Sriram and then Heritage

Hi Monika,

Can you throw light on the reasons behind that choice ? Would be helpful. Thanks.

@ Payal

TSRS I believe is better than Heritage. TSRS has some good old school values that the young can benefit from. New age schools are great but you still want a connection to our Indian roots and culture. That is what will make our children unique. They will have plenty of opportunities and exposure in the later years but for now simpler is better. What worries me about TSRS is the culture that the rich kids might bring to the school. Heritage is more main stream.

Hi Payal,

As you know, I was grappling with the same situation some weeks back, since had to decide between TSRS and Heritage (IB). Spoke to 10+ parents in each school, who have kids going to primary section. Both sets of parents were quite happy with their schools, so the fact is that the schools are quite close to each other in parents' eyes. Therefore, there is little to choose from.

We decided to go for TSRS due to the following reasons. Hope these would help you. These are amalgamation of all parent feedback.

1. Contrary to popular belief, TSRS places good emphasis on extra curricular activities/experiential learning and not just on studies. Some parents mentioned that Shikshantar is one end of spectrum ( "let children be") and DPS is the other end. TSRS sits in the middle. At Heritage, some parents mentioned that the focus in primary years is more on experiential learning but they felt the school should inculcate "some more discipline". I personally ascribe to this philosophy- while children shouldn't be burdened unnecessarily, a school is not just a service provider. It is a place of learning and learning does require some discipline as well, so the balanced approach of TSRS sounds better to us. Do bear in mind that at TSRS, while the parent-teacher interaction is periodic, but the school does maintain slight distance from the parents in that they are quite clear on how their approach to learning would be. However, we were quite concerned about the ICSE curriculam, which is perceived to be quite heavy on studies.

2. Based on our research, the ICSE curriculam has undergone changes for the better over the last few years. My sister's kids attend ICSE schools in Kolkata and the first hand feedback is that the learning is rooted in concepts rather than rote. I got a chance to look at my niece's books and they're actually quite nice. At TSRS, we're told that a light homework is given to children every Friday, which the school expects the parents to help the child over the weekend.  There are no examinations/grading till class 5.

3. We inquired about average experience of educators/teachers of primary wing at both the schools. As one would guess, TSRS has quite stable teacher tenure and teachers are generally much more experienced than Heritage. This was important for us as this tells us that the educator has gone through a lot of experience and situations in handling small kids and therefore would a) take better care b) understand issues better and c) give better advice, if necessary, to parents. Some parents mentioned that the ex-vice principal of TSRS, Ms. Monica Sagar, is now the principal at Shiv Nadar and is credited for the growth and popularity of Shiv Nadar school, highlighting the quality of educators at TSRS.

4. Lastly, since our daughter had got through the IB curriculum, we wanted her to have exposure to ICSE also. One never knows- perhaps she's more suited to ICSE rather than IB/IGCSE and we didn't want to take away that option! TSRS of course has the IGCSE option later, which we can take up depending upon how our daughter's personality develops. Transition from IB to CBSE in Heritage is theoretically possible, but the learning paradigms are so different that its impractical.

Therefore, to sum-up, we preferred TSRS over Heritage IB because:

1. Better balance between studies and experiential at TSRS rather than Heritage. ICSE is not as draconian as we initially thought, especially in primary years.

2. Teachers are more adept in handling child related issues ( both academic and non academic), by virtue of their experience and having possibly seen more numbers of situations with young kids.

3. We wanted to have the option of giving exposure to both Indian and IB curricula, which was not practically possible in Heritage.

What is the comparison between Shiv Nadar and Shikshantar?

We have been offered admission in Shiv Nadar and for Shikshantar  we are still waitlisted.

Also Which is a better option TSRS or Shiv Nadar?

Keerat Singh

Heartiest Congratulations  for making in Shiv Nadar as it is among most sought after NAS.

Shiv Nadar.>Shikshantar.(First hand reviews of parents)

What was your wait list number(for future reference). Also can you you share fee structure for 2021-22 as it is not posted on school website till now.

TSRS>Shiv Nadar.

Can you share fee structure  of Kunskapsskolan.

@ Keerat,

Shikshantar used to be a great school some 10-15 yrs back but has lost its way. They have not evolved.  Shiv Nadar is better than Shikshantar, as shared by Sakshi.
