Parents are requested to share inputs.

Hi Sachin, can you please elaborate when you say the child is slow in reading text.

My suggestion to you is to speak to her class teacher about it where she is lacking.

May be her understanding of phonics is not clear that she is having trouble with reading.

Does your child school has a special educator who can help her. If not than try to meet one and see if

special educator can help her. These days special educator have many instresting ways to teach the toughest

subjects in the most easiest way.

If you can’t get a special educator than try to observe the pattern of her reading and see where she is getting stuck and work accordingly. Don’t put much presssure and do it in the calm way.

Well said Meenakshi Bhola. Thanks for helping parents with great dedication.

thanks a lot

Sachin

Slow reading is an issue with language. Problems often begin with phonological awareness, a language skill that is critical for reading.
Kids with poor phonological awareness have trouble recognizing and working with the sounds in words. They are much more likely to struggle with learning to read.
A number of types of specialists can teach kids with dyslexia to recognize word sounds. They can also help them with phonics—connecting letters with sounds, breaking words into sounds, and blending sounds into words.
Together, these skills allow kids to sound out words they don’t know. That process is known as decoding, and it’s fundamental to reading.
Professionals who provide this type of therapy include clinical and school psychologists, teachers, occupational therapists specialists, learning specialists and speech and language therapists who focus on learning issues. They work in schools and also in private settings.
These specialists can use numerous strategies to build phonological awareness and other reading skills. They might work on rhyming, for instance. They may help kids recognize syllables by having them clap out the ones in their names.
So, training with special education services or speech language therapists can bring wonderful results.

We should never ignore any learning disability in this technologically advanced world. If it's minor problem nothing to worry parents can rectify by continuous reading, playing word puzzles, reading loudly and concentrating with phonetics. But here we don't know the level of learning difficulty. As a parent you should be also aware that 'Dyslexia' is a broad term describing a reading disability. The word dyslexia implies the meaning difficulty with words. It affects a child’s ability to read. It is neurological in origin, likely to be present at birth and its effects are lifelong. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and /or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities. These difficulties typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and the provision of effective classroom instruction.

Parents and teachers can and should take an active role in the child’s education.  Remember that the way the parents and teachers behave and what they do has the most impact on the child’s chances of success. The parents and teachers can show the child, how to deal with obstacles apart from the consistent love and support. A good attitude won’t solve the problem, but it can give the child hope and confidence that things can improve. Evaluating the child’s signs and symptoms at the right time and taking action is very important. It indicates whether to seek further assistance from a teacher or professional skilled in diagnosing learning disabilities. Teachers as well as parents will be a part of the interventions. They can give aid to the children successfully in completing different tasks. In few schools special educators are appointed who do 1 to 1 coaching and after continuous evaluation they with put into main stream. School psychologists quite often help to design the intervention and coordinate the execution of the intervention with teachers and parents. With the right support and intervention, children can succeed in school and go on to be successful later in life.

thanks a lot

@Sachin: Reading a book for a child is like connecting the dots. She first needs to learn phonics and then try to connect them to complete the words. In initial phase, you should go with "beginner books"(Just google It..!!).... which have sentences with few words.

One best example is : https://www.amazon.in/One-Fish-Blue-Beginner-Books/dp/0394800133

Thanks

Pankaj

thanks a lot
