STATESMAN 10 MAR Parents are requested to read comments first and see last 3 year history and then comment
I feel we Indians have a peculiar problem of getting into blame game.. Right now I am doing the same by blaming everyone :)
When the admission criteria was announced, no one uttered a word and everyone went ahead and filled applications.. As the results dates came closer, each criteria was discussed and everyone had his or her version for each criteria (obviously as per individuals comfort level). Bottom line is everyone wants the criteria as per his or her liking.. We have created the mess and not the government. At the end it is some or the other kid in question and someone will have to accept the fact.. Rules can't be customized as per everyone's liking.
Will just park few thoughts (For reference):
1) Neighborhood - I stay 20 KM away from DPS RK Puram or Vasant Kunj? Should I file a case on grounds of equality and my right etc that I should also get equal chance to get admission in this school and all other reasons? Many more reasons for each parent.
2) Transfer - So one who has spent entire life in Delhi, should they shift to other states for admissions as migrants are getting additional points? Many more reasons can be given.
3) Alumni - I wonder if it is the fight for very good 'popular' schools or average schools.. Will anyone raise questions for normal schools?
4) Siblings - Basis arguments discussed on Forum of dynastic etc, Alumni makes it dynastic but sibling doesn't for future?
What I feel is everyone has their own versions depending on their fulfillment of criteria.
What's disappointing is we have created a mess. It is the shortsighted parents who wake up when they find their kid may not get admission in this list and few parents supporting such issues.
AS A PARENT WHEN THE CRITERIA WAS ANNOUNCED, WHERE WERE THESE PARENTS TO RAISE QUESTIONS?? NOW WASTAGE OF 1 MONTH IS TAKEN AS 'NOT A BIG DEAL' FOR SOME PARENTS.
I have also applied for 20 plus schools and have not got admission for my son anywhere. But this mess created by SO CALLED INTELLECTUAL PARENTS is not taking it anywhere..
AND I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THE COMPETENCY OF GOVT WHO ARE MAKING RANDOM DECISIONS..
IT MAY HAPPEN THAT THE WAY OUR GOVT WILL ISSUE NOTICE THAT THOSE WHO DID NOT GET ADMISSIONS ANYWHERE WILL BE GIVEN ADMISSIONS IN THE BEST SCHOOLS OF DELHI... :)

And also at that time when Guidelines were published, nobody had an idea that inter state transfer points will be misused and that what happened and which caused so much of chaos..
Mr Amit,
THIS IS SHORTSIGHTEDNESS I AM TALKING ABOUT.
Who misused these guidelines?? SMART PARENTS..
Who fought against these guidelines?? SMART PARENTS..
After removal of transfer points, during the second draw again parents realised fault in alumni and sibling. Finally it will reach distance criteria.
Now most of the people are trying to find agents for getting admissions in school by paying money.
Thanks Shruti. I wonder what would the Kids do at home for two months without any play school and neither a regular school to attend too. Parents like us who are both working would have a hard time, we were wishing that the admission would close by 15th March. Today we are not sure when the admissions will start and the way it is going it may be that our Kids go to school only after Summer Vacations. Grow up parents and be rational and let the admissions happen....
I seriously hope and wish no more PILs and changes now. We should go for admission with current guidelines. As a working parents, we cannot afford running week after week doing same job. We should have analysed and thought of repurcussions intially there is no point in making noise now.
I agree to the fact that meager effort was taken by govt to bring education to the doorstep of every needy child. Forget about starting new schools, they could not even frame a good policy in this regard. Today, we parents and our children are sufferers. I am not in favour of PIL. My child lost the only seat secured through fair draw like many others due to PIL. Should judges be deciding the education related issues or panel of educationists take over on the issue?
Yes Dr Samar Mr Vohra fought for First child points from 2010 and after one year they were accepted in 2011 and if you see few threads on forum after 18 Dec when guidelines were issued we had highlighted and supported and after writing to Delhi Govt also no first child points were incorporated .
I agree to Dr. Samar Shadab
I think to stop all these argumants, lets see the prcoess & system & cross our fingers that every child will get admission.
Hi Shruti S – Cant help myself from jumping on this. You have tried to approach it point by point in the name of being rational/ logical. Let me try to think about each of them point by point. And trust me I also am equally rational, not closed or selfish person. Just spending few minutes for little bit of healthy discussion which eventually can help me, you and the group.
Point #1:Somewhat agree that we have a peculiar problem. Call it blame game or lacking ownership or whatever.
Point #2: No one uttered a word when the rules were notified and now everyone is raising havoc. Agree that as a situation this is how it is. Now let’s understand WHY part of it. As a parent I don’t have the data to understand the BIGGER picture just the moment the rules are flashed in the front of me. I don’t know at a zone level (east, west, south, north) how many total eats are available, how many applications were filled last year, how many applicants will be expected basis sibling/alumni etc. That is why everyone thought to go with the flow.
Now come to the post effect; Everyone is voicing the opinion which may appear to be noise. Any social platform (a blog/website/FB page) specifically meant for admission discussion will have 360 degree view from parent. Don’t think and expect that someone will post a ‘joke of the day’ or share market update here. As human beings we speak up the most when it impacts us.
Point #3: We have created the mess not the government. My understanding (maybe I am missing something) is that we elect a government so that it make the policies basis the broader constitutional objectives. Don’t know if expectation is that I personally need to get hands-on involved with every single thing which touches my life. And even if I knew will I realistically be able to do that?
Point #4: What parents were doing when the policy was announced: Ties back to point #2 above still let’s take it one more time. To talk about myself, I was working prolonged hours, doing every possible bit to secure the Childs future from second dimension, which is financial part. I would had been questions on some other web forum, if I was too busy ensuring the policy thing but not doing anything for financial part of the education. It’s just a typical common man type of story. I am not ashamed with this admission.
Finally, I am not selfish, blind sighted. I don’t support first child/girl child points though I benefit from both. What I need is that the process should be fair, just and reasonable for EVERONE. I don’t think I am wrong if I am complaining about it if this is not happening.
