Nursery admission rules no child’s play; DoE seeks time

Sunday, 15 December 2013 | SR | New Delhi | in Sunday Pioneer

Just when confusion regarding process of nursery admissions seemed to end, it has again become hazy, leaving the parents bewildered. It appears that the admission guidelines will take more time to be clarified by the Directorate of Education (DoE) and hence, might lead to a delay in the admission schedule as well.

According to the DoE, the Lieutenant-Governor who had announced that criteria for admission in 2014-15 would remain the same has now sought time to review the decision, with Delhi elections adding to the woes of parents.

In a meeting with the DoE and activists who opposed the old admission criteria, the secretary to the L-G declared that it would require at least four more days to come to a final stand if the Government is not formed and if the Government is formed then at least seven days would be needed. “We have to wait for the L-G’s instructions. Only then we will be in a position to clear the confusion,” said Amit Singla, Director of Education.

This hung-in-the-air phase has irked parents and schools triggering panic among them as they are unable to plan and prepare for admissions because of the unclear guidelines. “We hope a decision comes soon,” said Dr DR Saini, Principal of DPS, RK Puram.

“Many parents are in panic mode after this decision by the L-G. They are expressing their worries over online forum. Parents start girding up for the process months in advance — get paperwork in order, research schools, and in some cases, even move homes — but this year, they can’t do even that -Sumit Vohra

RENEWED UNCERTAINTY OVER NURSERY ADMISSIONS HT 15 DEC

NEW DELHI: Uncertainty over the nursery admission procedure has parents worried.

The directorate of education had said earlier this week that the criteria for nursery admissions will remain the same as last year. The process, however, was thrown out of gear yet again following a protest by an activist group outside the Lieutenant Governor’s (L-G’s) office on Friday.

The activist group Social Jurist demanded a change in guidelines. “We have been assured verbally by the L-G’s office that a decision will be taken by next week,” said Khagesh Jha, a member of Social Jurist.

Now that fresh questions have been raised over the guidelines, anxious parents claimed that the lack of clarity was only adding to their woes.

“This constant flip-flop is very disconcerting,” said Nitin Uppal, a parent.

Sources said the situation would become clear in the following week.

Principals said some standardisation in guidelines was likely to be established this time.

“There is usually a full committee that decides upon these guidelines. Till now, schools were devising their own points for separate criteria. This time, there is likely to be some uniformity in parameters and the committee will give standard points,” said Usha Ram, principal, Laxman Public School.

Pioneer 13 Dec-Admission criteria remains unchanged: L-G

Friday, 13 December 2013 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

The process of nursery admission which was to be changed for the coming academic session 2014-15, will now remain the same due to the stalemate over Government formation in the Capital. The DoE received instructions from the L-G Najeeb Jung that more time would be required to work out nursery admission guidelines.

Parents who were hoping for a change have been turned down as the Directorate of Education has made it clear there will be no change in the admission process of the coming academic year. This means that the private schools will have the freedom to decide what points to allot to any category, a process that has not gone down well with the parents.

Mostly schools follow the 100 point-system that weighed each candidate on the basis of three main factors such as distance, sibling and alumni. Parents prefer the first category and demand that more points be given to this category so that children living near the school get admission but big schools allot more points to other two categories making their chances brighter.

Several schools have made it clear that they will not change the procedure much this time. Bal Bharti Public School principal LV Sehgal said that the admission formula will allot points on the basis of distance, sibling, alumni, child with special needs and girl child. Based on these factors, a candidate will be allotted points and given admission accordingly, said the principal adding that all schools must upload their own criteria for admission on their respective websites so that parents are not confused and know the process already. This will help the parents decide where all is the child more likely to get admission

Sumit Vohra, founder of admissionsnursery.com said that though there won’t be any change but the points allotted to neighbourhood criterion may go up. “Normally neighbourhood factor gets around 20 points but this time schools are expected to give more points to this category taking it to 40-50 points,” he said adding that there will be no relief to first time parents as the points allotted to first child are only 10.

The schools will see more online admissions this year and they will have to follow the guidelines and schedule as instructed by the DoE under which no school will violate the dates of registration issued by the DoE.

Depends on LG ,will come to know in coming week.we don't want to speculate.

Could someone pls. help me with the list of documents that would be required for nursery admissions? Esp. if the attested copies of photo copied documents are acceptable. Is there a website or link where we can found complete information about this?

Manjari

Please find the link below

http://www.admissionsnursery.com/page/documents-required-1

All affidavits have to be in original and few schools ask for original B>C with name.

Please provide me clarity on the affidavits that needs to be prepared. I need to apply for my boy, he is 1st child. Also, will the address proof be required for both parents?

-Manish

Thank for quick reply Sakshi, would it be required to furnish address proof of Child's mother as well? Most of her address proofs are reflecting her parents address.
Also, do schools ask for distance affidavits?

Either of the parents address will work.

Thanks Sakshi!

Another query that i have is with regards to school selection. Reading thru the posts i see that in Dwarka DPS, Mount carmel, VIS 10, Bal Bharti are the top schools. Getting thru any of these schools would be tough though.... Request you to share your views regarding good schools for primary/pre-primary education. This is the foundation time, i would like to select school with present need in mind. A School which focuses on care, hygiene, overall development, activities etc.... Which schools should i apply in Dwarka?
