i lost seat in 7/8 school in my area becoz of withdrawl of education point but it was my luck that i was alumni of 8th school....but i certainly oppose the system of selection...i agree that the demand is more than supply but there has to be some way to sort out this problem...
This year the lucky ones are those who got points for Sibling, Alumini, Girl Child, Transfer cases and donations. I stay in east delhi and we carry the brunt of staying in east- having few schools
and losing on them also because of our profesional and educational qualification, being not of religious minority, not having a girl child and no sibling, no alumni. recent change of criterial makes the hope of getting our child into good school dimmer day by day.
We stay in Anand vihar and I had applied for Mayur vihar phase-1 schools. Even though, the distance is around 8 km(as also shown by routeguru.com) the Ahlcon international school takes the distance to be more than 10km because of their bus route. Because of this, we lost all the distance points. Earlier we scored full points on education and profession and had some hope of getting our daughter admitted in that school. But with the revised point system, we only get 20 points and have no hope left now :(
I'm really surprised the way school admission point system works. Sorry to say but whoever has devised this point system is mentally insane and a big fool.
Point system suggests that a big favour should be given to sibling and alumni even if the sibling or alumni has performed miserably in the school earlier. If that is the case why the hell the schools invite applications from others.
Schools like Montfort have place only for Christians, Alumni and Siblings. These kind of schools should be banned.
Schools like St. Thomas are so shady in their proceedings that it seems they are interested only in making money and are doing this as a bloody business . They haven't disclosed their point system on school forms and neither have they disclosed on what basis the selections are made.
When we talk about fair selection my suggestion is that every school should select basis lottery system to ensure fair chance to everybody irrespective of educational qualifications, siblings , alumni, income status etc. Mind you i'm saying this though i have good income status, good qualifications with me and a good background to get my child in a good school.
We had gone through the first round of verification for Srijan.
Now they are re-compiling the list based of DOE's directives on parent's education, inspite of the
fact Srijan had already declared the list much before and DOE has exempted such schools..
Hope something can be done over this.
I feel sorry for my daughter.

We also lost on 4-5 schools but still were able to make it for few schools. I think Prem is right , demand is more than Supply . DOE should work out to improve the quality of schools which are not considered to be good so that People have more good option in neighbourhood itself. Its just because we donot have good schools around we need to follow whatever the schools are asking. Also DOE should also play an imporatnt role in deciding upon the Fee structure of schools on the basis of facilities . There should be some guideline for school to adhere for fee structure and other charges as well.
No point system can be sucessfull in such a scenario. And also I am against the point system completely . Just imagine the trouble being faced by parents who are applying for first child and alos who have not studied in Delhi Schools.Even considering distance will lead to Lottery system only.Devoiding a child of education on basis of his locality / parent's qualification / Occupation is totally against Children Rights.
as per our constitution every child has a right for education.
May be DOE can bring in some parternership among govt. and private schools , sharing of resources and staff etc which will bring the level of Govt. schools up.
I think DOE should call for a public opinion poll so that all the negatives and positives can be known beforehand rather than let some govt. people to take decision on this.
We are living in a democracy but decisions are still not based on Public's opinion.
Its high time struggling for admissions at nursery and college level and time to action has come.
Yes, I also agree. I am an Academician and Associate Professor in a University. My wife also is a Senior Lecturer at a University. We have highest Engineering degrees in India, still we could not make it to school of our choice. What is the use of such degree and the Academics profession , when our child even can't get admission into the school we want.
the removal of point system will create more trouble. as a result, more donations, connections will happen when criteria of selection is undefined. I feel that if not parent profession, centralized written test/interview shuld be there. and it should be audited.
