Admission parameters discriminatory’

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

New Delhi: With the parameters of parents’ profession and qualification having been scrapped, schools will have to primarily rely on other basic criteria like distance, alumni, sibling, girl child, etc. However, these parameters are as discriminatory as profession and educational qualification.
Sample this. After the government introduced the last-minute changes in the admission criteria, a school like Gyan Bharati ended up giving a whopping 40 out of 100 points for distance to almost every successful candidate. ‘‘How else could I divide 100 points among the remaining parameters. It was really difficult,’’ director R C Shekhar had told Times City. Parents staying beyond eight kilometres from the school were hardly left with a chance.
Similarly, points like alumni or sibling make it difficult for first-time parents or for those who studied outside Delhi. Some parents feel that giving more points for the girl child takes away the opportunity from boys! Sumit Vohra, who runs an online forum to guide parents, said, ‘‘I have a daughter who was admitted in nursery last year. So I want that education for girls should be promoted. But this should not happen at the cost of male children. It should be a level playing field.’’
Another parent, who had applied in a school in west Delhi, said, ‘‘The school fills up all its seats with children of alumni or those whose siblings already study there. Is it my fault that I didn’t study in Delhi? I was in one of the best schools in Gwalior, but it’s sad that nobody cares.’’
Ashutosh Batta, principal, Bloom Public School in Vasant Kunj, said removing the profession and education criteria will prevent schools from admitting a particular set of children to keep their ethos going. However, dividing the 100 points for admission into other parameters should still be non-discriminatory.

HC not to interfere in admission process

Delhi HC on Wednesday expressed its reluctance to interfere in the nursery admission process in the city and suggested the aggrieved parents approach the directorate of education. Justice G S Sistani said that the parents should approach the grievances cell of the education department. HC was hearing a petition filed by a father whose son did not get admission in a city school. The petitioner alleged that the school has not followed the criteria under

thanx sumitji for raising the voice of parents, sumitji please raise the issue that why people working in govt sector be given extra points in almost all big institutions.....why this discrimination? We are all wid you , you are the voice of all parents in general.
The extra points given to female child in a metro like delhi is not at all justified. People in delhi are quite sensible and these days most of the parents have one or rarely have two kids and for them it hardly matters whether it is a girl or boy, they just want good education for their kid. So if parents are not bias why the system is?

In 1st list of most of the schools in delhi the percentage of girl child qualifies is almost 70-80%, is it justified?
Sir,

I have a question as i have single child my daughter & i am in private sector but my husband is into business of books having shop in some renowned market. So the crieteria of sibling, education doesn't match with us only neighborhood point match with us as we stay at rajinder nagar but still last year & this year we were not able to get admission for our daughter in our area & near by area. Sir, please suggest me what to do in all this situation as i have lost all hope to this system.
No rewards on beating the line now. We have missed the addmissions in many schools like DPS Dwarka, Venkatesh International Dwarka etc. just because of the fact they gave whopping 35 points out of 100 to the siblings...............

Govt. should put a fixed range of points on every criteria....it should not be left on the schools to decide as per their own.
Seems like the real sanctity of the Point System and DOE Directives are all gone....another year....hundreds of parents were made fool with some full-proof systems by schools.

Every year we might see many Sumit Vohras standing out of the crowd.........but in the end.........we have to believe that they are our teachers and we can't be smarter then them.
Dear Mohit

Yesterday Mr Lovely was accusing School of telling lies and his statement was" jo school shiksha dete hain unko schools se yeah expected nahi hain." In live show on sahara tv where mr vohra was present ..it not the case of out smarting but..Mr Vohra has opened can of worms..

In past years did u see single Sumit Vohra fighting without any vested interest ..i doubt Many parents coming in open and fighting but yes optimismic some will come and with help of all of you we will change the system

SOME CHANGES THIS YEAR:-

ALL CHILD INTERVIEW STOPPED ON Mr VOHRA VOICE

SOME SCHOOL IN JAN HAD TO POSTPONE RESULTS in jan

ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN ONE DAY (read removal of corruption) ...

Although a lot of people have raised issues with the girl child getting 5 extra points, and single parents getting ten, we must the larger picture, within which these are justitfied.

first of all, please remember, that the single parent although he/she is getting those 10 points, is also forgoing around 20 points( education+profession) which they would have otherwise got easily.

as far as the girl child is concerned, although most of us are from basic middle class backgrounds, which though educated still have a fetish for a boy child. how many of you can claim not to have a single person in your family not pining for a boy child? and this is so deeply embedded in our culture that not one, but several generations of educated people will be able to erase the divide between the girl child and the boy child.
i saw a discussion about the 5 points to girl child where someone said a time will come when all the girls will get educated, and the boys will be uneducated.....well, it is exactly the reverse of the situation from which we are moving forward....girls have in the past, not got the same opportunities boys have been given. and this is widely rampant in our culture.

i know of educated people who openly distinguish between their boy and girl. the boy will be sent to a co-ed school, oh but the girl can be tucked away in a convent, or worse still, the boy's school application should be made far and wide, but the girl, oh well, "gali ke kone waale school ka faram le aao bhar do".

also, a lot of these girls, for want of incentives like these, in lower income groups, in lower middle class families with the parents perhaps the first generation of educated people, would not cross class 8.

so, in the larger scheme of things, one has to accept the benefit to the entire society, not how it may influence us as individuals directly.
Yes i agree with the moderator,I was the one who was told that the child interactions have been banned from now on just bcoz of Sumit Vohra(admissionsnursery.com),when i went for interaction with my child.....

I agree,we also want to raise voice against the malpractices but only few have courage to take the lead, like Mr. Sumit Vohra....Very few people like him have an ability to bring the change..... N we all agree that he has made a change.........
Hi i m with you all and i wd like to correct you sakshi that no points has been given to Govt sector except DPS RKPuram who came out with the list before the new guidelines. But even after that the point system is rubbish.
sandeep govt sector has been awarded points in sanskriti and heritage school also. And why do you call these schools "only ".......they are very well reputed schools and doesnt our child have the right to study in esteemed institutions like these........why doesnt any school have points for people working working in corporate or anyother sector for that matter....are only these babus serving the nation....isnt it a mockery Mr Sumit vohra who has done so much for the parental society in general, has not been offered a seat in a renowned institution.....rather why are seats not reserved for such people who single handedly keep challenging the education deptt. And please dont thnk otherwise neither i have anythng against any govt official nor am i a frustated parent who has not been able to secure a seat for my child...............
There has been no stoppage of school interviewing children, The schools have interviewed children. Couple of schools that I know have interviewed children are: a) Green Fields school , Safdarjung enclave and DAV Public School, Kailash Hills. These schools have flouted guidelines in the manner they wanted to. Where was the Govt. when schools were accepting the forms and had points for parents' qualification and profession.

I am a tutor, i teach accounts to senior classes and my wife works as an admin executive in private sector. So we did not get high rating as far as parents' credentials are concerned, but the manner in which this all had unfolded is absolutely uncalled for. Govt. should have monitored the process and they are still not willing to do so when schools are taking advantage of the helpless parents who want to get their child admitted to atleast one of the schools to set the ball rolling.

We had applied for 7 schools St. George's, NGFS Alaknanda,Tagore Int'l EOK, Summer Fields, Frank Anthony and DAV Public School-Kailash Hills and Pinnacle School- Panchsheel Enclave. My son did not figure in any school's list.

Sumit Ji, you are a star as you are taking on the might of DOE and Public schools' malpractices which have strong nexus, that's what i believe. I am ready to provide voluntary assistance of any kind for this cause.

mohitji, i undrestand your view point but somehow i couldnt digest the line" every year many sumit vohra will stand out of the crowd" ....... i am quite impressed by your optimistic thinking and sincerely hope we have a few more sumit vohras or people who have the courage to stand out, speak their mind, challenge the whole education system.....all fr the sake of other people. Why only nursery admissions I would want more clones of Mr sumit vhra, people like mr sumit to raise other important issues as well. All of us in the forum know only how to express their feelings, grudges etc only on the site or at the dinner table....none of us have taken the same intiative, responsibilty to come forward and do sumthng abt it.I just hope we have one more Mr Sumit vohra this year....a person who is ready to giv up his personal life to bring joy/solve other peoples personal problem...their childs admission.
