“Last year, for nursery admissions, all schools considered 3+ or did some consider 4+ in Delhi? Please confirm, there is so much confusion,“ wrote Parul, a parent, on admissionsnursery.com.
The website, which deals with nursery admissions-related information, has been flooded with such queries from parents seeking admission for their children.

Last year, human resource development minister Kapil Sibal had suggested that children seeking nursery admission in Delhi should be more than four years old. Such an age criteria for Delhi children is discriminatory, said Delhi education minister Arvinder Singh Lovely.

“The age limit if implemented should be done throughout the country and not only in Delhi. So, the age criteria should remain at three years and above,“ said Lovely.

Also, there are no clear guidelines on how to implement the Right to Education (RTE) Act yet. Last year, the admission process began on December 15 and this year too it is expected to be around the same time but schools have not received any communication from the Directorate of Education (DoE).

Principals said the guidelines were needed as soon as possible because schools will also take time to incorporate them in the admission process.

“Besides for things like getting admission forms printed, one needs to know what happens to the points system. If points system amounts to screening and one has to resort to lottery, then how does one ensure gender parity, neighbourhood criteria and the two siblings studying in different schools issues?“ asked Ameeta Wattal, principal, Springdales School, Pusa Road.

Lovely said he was in talks with HRD ministry officials on RTEimplementationandschools will be notified by next week.

However, Mt Carmel School, Anand Niketan, has announced the sale of admission forms from December 1 to 15, though there are no guidelines on RTE and the DoE hasn't announced the admission schedule.

“We are a minority unaided school, so we have the liberty to decide our own schedule. We have informed the DoE and have not received any objection yet,“ said principal VK Williams.

But Lovely said, “It amounts to violation of DoE guidelines are yet to be notified? All schools have to follow the common schedule and strict action will be taken against those who do not.“guidelines.
How can the school announce dates when the RTE

I think we all parents agree and strongly believe that the age of nursery admission should be increased to 4+ years.
after all this is for the betterment of our younger generation. lets take a step ahead to initiate an action Mr. Lovely, that others can follow.
Be the first one to free the burden of responsibility from our young children's shoulders. Please think from the point of view of parents.
Well schools like Presidium and OPG World School have already started their admissions. We have undergone the counselling session and admission has already started. Therefore, its quite clear that most of the schools in delhi do not wait for the DoE schedule or guidelines.
Yes sarita no one is scared of doe
Initiative taken by authorities to raise the nursery admission age to 4+ is welcomed by all parents. Analysis of this with foresight will reveal that it has to be implemented all over India together, so that it will not affect interstate transfer of students in days to come after studying in Dehi 4 some time. Another point is that whatever may be the decision it has to be taken asap to avoid confusion 2 parents and thereby enables the school mgmts 2 play funny and make use of the confusion in their favor..

i agree with parents that age should be 4+...bt what happens whn da kids age is 3.9 as on 31 march....my kid is june born ad for just 2 months the whole yr is disturbed......dnt knw y DOE is sleepng .......cant they take any action....they were having 1 full yr with thm....bt till now no decision....the worst affected r parents who roam here nd there in search of forms coz many schools start form sellng without takng prior permission from DOE.....ah....dnt knw wht's in store for us....
i certainly agree with you....my son's DOB is 20.06.07....and if the age for nursery admission is changed to 4+ then he would be almost 5 years when he goes to nursery....n this thought makes me very tense....
it seems they are playing with india futures life, because not decideing on the age creteria ..due to that parents are in middle of the river..and schools are getting advantage for this benefit and doubt.

no body work seriously on this direction to taka an action and decide on age creteria and implement on RTE act as almose all over india ..next session going to prepare.
I think nursery admission age should be increased to 4+ years as announced by Kapil Sibal in February 2010 but whatever is the case the government should present clear guidelines on whatever are the new rules and regulations including age criteria, point system, and other things. Every parent of a 3 to 4 year old kid in Delhi is stuck between these issues. Government should take immediate action or else the confusion can cause further chaos.
Its like playing with the future of so many kids..as it is, 3 years is too tender an age for a kid to be sent to the formal school and the uncertainty on the issue is adding to woes of the parents..the worst affected are the kids, they have to undergo emotional harassment which gets heightened because the parents have no choice but to fall prey to the system!!
i tooo suggest 4+ or 3+ with cut-off dates september 30 as it was earlier. they have their wholelife for studying. let them enjoy .
A child today is much more aware of his whereabouts than we were as kids and each kid is different.... they need to have some child-like time during their initial times than to get into the rat race!!! They have their whole life to study! A child of 3years of age in the nursery isn't a great idea at all!! Its disheartening to see the pressures of life catching upto them so fast!!

I want the age criteria of nursery to be 4+....A 4 year old is much more stable and ready than a 3 year old!!!
