NEW DELHI: The hassle of nursery admission may become history if the proposal Delhi government's education department is mulling goes through. To "simplify" the process, the department is considering the introduction of a centralized application process for nursery admissions in private schools.

"The objective is to make the process as simple and streamlined as possible for the parents," says education minister Kiran Walia, "In the current system, parents are on tenterhooks and have to run from school to school when the process starts. Our attempt is to make the process quicker and with as little chaos as possible."

A centralized application process is likely to be a complicated affair, as R C Jain, president, Delhi State Public Schools Management Association, points out. "Till now, parents have been applying at the schools and the schools drew up lists after selection. Schools follow the 100-points system and decide on the distribution of points individually. It will be incredibly difficult for the department to sort through all this," he says.

"This is exactly the point where I'm stuck," says Walia. She admits that the point-system could prove to be a hurdle but will soon meet stakeholders to discuss the feasibility of the centralization idea. The DoE typically issues its guidelines for the schools in December and the process begins in January. She also adds that the department is "addressing only the submission part for now." The proposal is to create district-wise collection points where parents could drop their applications off. Till now, the admission process was centralized for the EWS category and that too for seats that schools were unable to fill on their own in the first round.

Walia has even asked the directorate to "see if the right kind of software can be made" to process forms that would eliminate the possibility of loopholes. "I also suggested that they look at the Delhi University software," Walia said

Thanks to Mr.Vohra who proposed for CAP for admissions in nursery schools. This proposal has ignited the mind of education minister to consider the process. Eventhough it cannot be applicable this coming session it can be implemented next year. Policy making decisions regarding CAP should be deeply analysed by great educationists, software personnals, policy makers, DOE and great thinkers who are already involved in the admission process like Mr.Sumit Vohra who who the strengths and weakness in the current system. Complete evaluation done before implemention. Getting software is not a big issue since already CAP ongoing in famous universites.

Apart from this I feel Early Education Authority should be incorporated who will be solely responsible for regulation and supervision of all activites including admission process.

Fee Regulation Act should also be passed.

All these process will definitely make CAP transparent, smoother and less stressful to parents.

Yes Lathaaji you are spot on , school lobby looks reluctant as they will have problem in back door entry.

Kudos to sumit sir

This is great news, yesterday only we were discussing same issue in this forum. I just hope the system will be built with thorough understanding and research by qualified professionals and not like any other present govt sites/system. Also all loopholes to work around the system must be closed. Views of parents and people (like Mr. Vohra) working in the field must also be considered while building this system.

Yes Manu u r spot on
