The Delhi Directorate of Education (DOE) is set to declare its nursery admission guidelines on Thursday after the Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to urgently hear a public interest litigation that challenged the points system followed by schools.

In absence of any directions from the high court, the admission guidelines will remain almost same as last year with a few changes in the schedule. The matter will come up for hearing in the court on January 23.

"We were ready with the guidelines but wanted to wait for the court's guidelines. Since we cannot wait till the end of January to kick-start the process, we will release the guidelines on Thursday. The basic guidelines will remain the same and only a few changes have been made in the schedule," said Amit Singla, director education.

Last year, 25% of all seats were reserved for students from the economically weaker sections. Out of the remaining 75%, a maximum of 20% could be reserved for the management quota.

Children above the age of 3+ can be admitted in nursery.

As it was last year, schools will be free to decide the criteria on which they will admit students. But all schools will have to follow the Right to Education Act guidelines.

@ Mohammad

It's for entry level i.e. if school is starting with class I or Pre-Primary they follow this schedule.

Hi Sumit,

any chance or scope for distence points in this year?also put ur views on Gyan Bharati school Saket as well Vidya niketan scool Saket.

There is no change in distance criteria. DOE admission guidelines are out and no corrective measures taken by DOE to change the flawed point system.

Thanks for the information. But I just wanted to know , is there any upper age limit for a child to be admitted in nursery? I mean , my daughter is now 3 yrs old , and I think for a formal school 4 yrs is the right age. So should I wait for next year or better not miss the chance this year.

It does not matter what you think is the right age. I would recommend you go with the system prevalent. If most of the schools take 3+ in nursery, go for it. For all you know, they may not even entertain you next year.

So shortlist your schools, and go by their age criteria.

@ Ranjita

3+ years is an appropriate age to admit in nursery in Delhi. for Upper age verdict we have wait a little more. Next year it would be indeed tough to get admission and go ahead with the upcoming admission process.

Thanks a ton Sumit sir  & AN.COM for being the First one to publish the DOE Guidelines for Delhi Nursery Admissions 2013-14.

As confirmed by you and other esteemed parents here we are sure that no change is there in this year too for Admissions Criteria to be used by schools.

DOE is stressing Neighourhood Criteria only for EWS category and we feel that General category parents again would have to tread the tough path to find a suitable school for their kids given the expected heavy weightage to Alumni & Sibling criteria.

Always First :-)

What is calculation of 3+, it can be 3 yrs 1 day?

Children born between 1st April, 2009 and 31st March, 2010 are eligible for nursery/Pre-school admission.

what about if any one born on 24 March 2009?

Satyam, we might have to wait  upper age cut off limit notification as expected by doe. by as of today its school specific.
