NEW DELHI: Ending days of suspense and anxiety for parents, the Delhi gover nment has announced that the criteria for nursery admissions this year will remain unchanged.

According to Delhi education director Amit Singla, there are no changes in the criteria for the current admission session.

This means that the points system, along with the freedom for schools to decide the criteria for points, remains.

Parents of three-year olds were eagerly awaiting any changes in the criteria as the High Court had asked the Lieutenant Governor (LG) to submit his recommendations on the matter. These recommendations were to be final.

According to sources, the LG has asked for some more time to come out with the new recommendations.“The education department has been directed to apply to the High Court for extension of the deadline as he wants to include more people in his consultations. That plus the uncertainty of government formation has made him ask for more time,” sources said.

The points system will give the schools the freedom to choose the criteria for the points system as well as the quantum of points in each category.

So it is clear that by 15th December the guidelines will be out and from 1st Jan the admission process starts if no new recommendations are added. I hope the autonomy of the schools on points system gets reduced.

Is there a better method for nursery admissions?

I propose a Centralised Point System with centralized admission process with following salient features: 1. There should be one common form which should be filled by all parents who are seeking admissions for their kids, online/offline. The form should have all the required details and a few preferred schools. 2. It should be submitted to the DOE or the any concerned impartial authority. 3. Based on the details given by parents, the authorities should assign schools to each child (each child should be given a choice of 4-5 schools to choose from). 4. After this list is out, the parents should choose any one school and submit the same. 5. Once the list is final, the schools should be sent the list of the students who have been admitted in their school. 6 Scrap Alumni Points( Against RTE as alumni is educated till 12th so profiling against uneducated under RTE ) 7 Transparency etc 8 .Strict action against all (schools which flout guidelines) 9. There should be a uniformity from sale of prospects to declaration of selected candidates. 10. Upper Limit of fees should by schools to be fixed. 11. great options but looks impossible to implement in Today's scenario. May be after five years when Arvind Kejariwal (AAP) will be CM of Delhi, this would be possible. :)

From 2012 we did not get support of parents for any further demonstration.

Yes. Please take it forward. I am out of India and don't know if I would be able to come but definitely there should be generic guidelines.

I was reviewing excel sheet uploaded by Sakshi mam. Very strange schools like Montfort, Mata Jai Kaur have extra points (Preference) for Christens & Sikhs. On the other hand we says we don't promote castism
