NEW DELHI: Ending days of suspense and anxiety for parents, the Delhi gover nment has announced that the criteria for nursery admissions this year will remain unchanged.
According to Delhi education director Amit Singla, there are no changes in the criteria for the current admission session.
This means that the points system, along with the freedom for schools to decide the criteria for points, remains.
Parents of three-year olds were eagerly awaiting any changes in the criteria as the High Court had asked the Lieutenant Governor (LG) to submit his recommendations on the matter. These recommendations were to be final.
According to sources, the LG has asked for some more time to come out with the new recommendations.“The education department has been directed to apply to the High Court for extension of the deadline as he wants to include more people in his consultations. That plus the uncertainty of government formation has made him ask for more time,” sources said.

My Daughter completes 3 years on 18-Mar-14. Is She eligible for admission for 2014-15 session. I was of the opinion that she should be 4+ as on 1st day of the session and would admit her in a play-way from 1-Apr-14 so I did not got her admitted in any play way school till now as i want her to enjoy her childhood before getting the burden of school. Please suggest, i am a little confused about the age criteria now as somewhere it is 3+ and somewhere it is 4+. In first case, i don't want her to be youngest in the class to add up to the burden.. please suggest....
Children born between 1st April, 2010 and 31st March, 2011 are eligible for nursery/Pre-school admission.
Children born between 1st April, 2009 and 31st March, 2010 are eligible for Pre-Primary/KG admission.
So your daughter is eligible for nursery admission this coming session.
Thanx Lathaa
They are juts taking parents for a ride and jeopardizing children's future.
Further, parents are again at the mercy of the schools and there is no centralized policies for the same.
Sunny
Very Valid points and i concur with you.
So it is clear that by 15th December the guidelines will be out and from 1st Jan the admission process starts if no new recommendations are added. I hope the autonomy of the schools on points system gets reduced.
Kindly advice.
Mr.Vohra has suggested a better method for nursery admission which was featured in TOI
great options but looks impossible to implement in Today's scenario. May be after five years when Arvind Kejariwal (AAP) will be CM of Delhi, this would be possible. :)
Great Suggestion sir. Let's try to implement it.
Hope such a transparent system is implemented soon to end the woes of parents seeking admission of their wards in delhi schools....
