NEW DELHI: The Directorate of Education (DOE) is likely to come out with its set of guidelines for nursery admissions early next week. Sources, however, said that there would not be any major changes in the admission procedure.
“Since the Lieutenant Governor has said that the guidelines will be the same this year, we are not making any big changes. There may be minor tweaks here and there but on the whole the guidelines will be the same as last year,” said Amit Singla, education director.
For kids belonging to the economically weaker sections, admissions will be based on the distance from school.
“The first preference will be given to those children who live within a kilometre’s radius of the school. The second preference will be given to those who live in a radius of one to three kilometres and the third preference to those who live in a four to six kilometre radius,” Singla added.
Centralised forms for the unreserved seats and centralized lottery for disadvantaged groups are not on the cards this year.
“We already accept forms from the disadvantaged groups centrally and could have had a centralised lottery had the criterion of distance not been there. In the current system it is impossible to have a workable centralised lottery for the EWS category,” he said.
Last year, the guidelines had come out on December 14 and the sale of forms commenced on January 1. A similar schedule is also expected to be followed this year. It is expected that all schools will be asked to follow the same schedule and no one will be allowed to stop the sale of forms before the decided date.
In the past, a number of schools used to sell forms for only a couple of days, adding to the parents’ woes. The directorate had taken action against such schools last year.
