NEW DELHI: Transfer points in nursery admissions have become the main point of contention this year and as per the data posted on schools’ websites, rightly so.
On analysing the names of students selected for lottery or for the final list, it has been revealed that in some schools close to 90% of the children who have made it are transfer cases while in others the numbers is between 25% and 30%.
As per DPS Dwarka’s website, of the 130 seats in the general category, 116 were to be filled by children who were eligible for transfer points. That makes for about 90% of the seats.
In schools such as Heritage School, Vasant Kunj, this number is around 70%. In Ahlcon International School, the figure was 31%.
Under the new guidelines, parents who have proof of having been transferred to the city are eligible for 5 inter-state transfer points. These points have become contentious this year with the number of applications under this category having increased exponentially as compared to the previous years. In a number of cases, these points are being availed by parents who are working in the NCR and have produced transfer certificates.
Till last year, schools saw only a couple of cases of transfer and were asked to accommodate such students on a priority.
“I don’t understand why we have transfer points in the first place. These should apply midsession and not at the beginning when every parent is at an equal footing,” said an infuriated parent who did not wish to be named.
The Directorate of Education has issued a directive, asking all schools to check all transfer documents thoroughly and to maintain proper documents. No cap on the number of admissions has, however, been announced.
“Transfer points are totally unjustified. They allow a child to secure a seat in a number of schools and have 20 times the probability of blocking a seat in all school within the 8-km radius. This has barred Delhi children with 70 points from a fair chance at admission,” said Sumit Vohra of admissionnursery.com, a portal for parents.
He, along with other, parents collated the data for 12 schools.

Keep going on with the great work - Mr.Sumit Vohra and team.
Transfer points from NCR has no meaning at all - may be considered from other states but that too in mid-session. My ward's name is not there even in the contention for lottery draw wherever lists have been declared. Next year our children will be ruled over-age. This is the price I have to pay for being a Delhi resident from the last 15 years. Really frustrated.
'ABOLISH TRANSFER POINTS WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT' cries anguished residents of Delhi.
We want only a fair chance at the lottery draw - that is all
a limit should be fixed to transfer case in all schools
The new is a A Ray of hope.... Thanks AN Team. Looks like we in our city have become a second class citizen and everything is on God's mercy now.......
Any update from LG office...
Suggest eachone of us to visit LG official website and register complaint for complete abolish of transfer point. We need to put enough pressure for people at such high position to listen to our concern.
I am one of the parent. among others who are also suffering due to this illogical extra 5 points for transfer. I have applied in 20 schools in rohini area, where I have been residing for the last 15 years, but I have the same 70 points in all the schools.
It has become a nightmare for us to get my son into a good school now.
I really appreciate this Forum's efforts in raising our concern. I hope Sir Najeeb Jung will amend this before the final draw.
Regards,
Nishant
YES WE ARE TRYING FOR THAT ONLY .
Thanks a lot for raising this issue as by removing the interstate point will give a right to education to every child with less mess/ headache to parents. Hope to see the GOOD RESULTS.
