Nursery admission dates differ, parents worried

NEW DELHI: Problems have arisen with nursery admissions as the schedule is not common in all schools. This has made parents a worried lot. Several schools, including The Indian School (Josip Broz Tito Marg), Mount Abu Public School (Rohini) and Kulachi Hansraj Model School (Ashok Vihar) are starting admissions on December 20, while Cambridge Primary School (New Friends Colony) is starting on December 26. Gyan Bharati, Saket, is starting the process on January 21, 2015.

"The directorate of education's guidelines gives parents a month to apply for refund. But here a school is starting admissions a month after others," says Sumit Vohra of admissionsnursery.com.

Declaration of the schedule doesn't mean the criteria have been made public. Some schools have even told parents to check with the school reception instead of posting the points distribution system online. The Indian School, however, has finalized it and pared the suggested criteria down to just three—distance (50 for those within 8km, 40 for those beyond 8km but between 12 and 20 points for those living beyond that); sibling (30 points) and first child (20).

Kulachi Hansraj, on the other hand has gone beyond the recommendations of the school bodies. In addition to distance, sibling, girl/first child and alumni, they also have categories like "sister concern school" (10 points) and "army/airforce/navy serviceman or martyrs" (10).

Even as schools gear up for admissions, the DoE is still deciding on issuing guidelines and what it will cover. They are also yet to decide on taking the matter to the Supreme Court. Social Jurist, the education lawyer-activist group, is, however, concerned about what the differing schedules will do to EWS admissions.

SCHOOL MARKS PARENTS’ JOB FOR ADMISSION
“The schools are not supposed to screen parents and it hasn’t even been mentioned as a criteria mentioned by National Progressive Schools Conference or Action Committee,” Sumit Vohra of admissionnursery.com said.

NEW DELHI: In a clear violation of norms, the Kulachi Hansraj Model School, Ashok Vihar, has decided to factor in the parents’ profession in the nursery admission process.

It awards 10 points to children whose parents are from the army, navy and air force.

According to the Ganguly Committee recommendations, that the schools have been directed to follow, children can’t be given points for their parents’ profession.

Admissions forms will be sold at the Hansraj Schools at Ashok Vihar and Punjabi Bagh from December 20 to January 5.

Most schools that have declared their criteria have allotted maximum points to the child’s neighbourhood.

Cambridge School, New Friends Colony, has announced its schedule for January 2, provided there is no contrary notification from Directorate of Education.

Sanskriti School has extended the date for announcement of nursery admission to December 22.

I thought DOE was atleast going to issue a common calender. If they can't do that then why should they provide Deadline for refunds? The refund date should be after all the schools have issued their final lists.

Dear All

DOE GUIDELINES EXPECTED ANYTIME AS PER MEDIA REPORTS BUT IT SEEMS THEY ARE CONFUSED WHETHER TO GO TO SC OR ISSUE CALENDER .

I SECOND YOU SURESH KUMAR

It seems like people will have to take leaves from work to fill the forms and then if court decides something else then they will have to go thru the entire process once again. The courts should either stay the process till final decision or give the decision before the process starts.

Lets all make a request to kindly restore the 2013 admission system, as the new system has created a lot of confusion.

Meanwhile, the Govt. may evolve a different procedure for next year i.e. 2016 after taking consensus from all concerned.

Actually they never make any system for next year. After this year's ordeal somehow ends, everything will become quite. Then everyone will wake up at the time of admissions next year and the circus will start all over again. I sometimes wonder if the DOE is a full time department or they only come into effect this time of each year.
