With the nursery admissions about to begin, some of the private schools have cleverly devised plans to admit their wards under staff quota in an unfair manner. These schools are giving points under this category in addition to the reservation they are entitled to in this category. Such measures will act against the spirit of providing equal opportunity to all aspirants and would indeed favour staff category students in a biased manner.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) has left it to the schools to decide on the admission process and point allocation under various categories. Many schools are taking advantage of this clause to favour their staff in an unfair manner which defies the spirit of unbiased and fair admission process.
An education department official said, if schools are employing such measures then it would be considered unfair and action would be taken against them. "It is unfair on the part of schools to give separate points for staff children in addition to reserving seats for them, and there is no sense in it. Such actions taken by the schools will only weaken the prospects and chances of common children," said Rashmi Gahlaut, Deputy Director Education, North-West Delhi. Activists and parents have expressed their concern.
They asserted that such moves by schools would mark the prospects of their child getting admitted. "Giving points to staff children even after reserving seats under the staff quota is highly unfair and is an attempt to make a dent in the general seats. Action should be taken against such schools," said Sumit Vohra, admissionnursery.com.
"This is highly unfair; the schools are favouring the children of teachers and their staff. Common people are discriminated against, as if our children have no right to study," said Rosy, a guardian. However, after the DoE extending the dateline of uploading the admission criterion upto 25th December giving them warning, many schools failed to comply with the previous order, as 620 schools have uploaded the admission criteria on their websites in compliance with the latest DoE order.
