This is wrong .Now when all the scholls will be out within a couple of days and now if this happens ,it will create only confusion .Nothing else .Please help and dont encourage this move
Sumit your website was the one which propogated that these point should be removed and are unfair and now you are asking parents who are affected to get up and ask you for help. I think you are also adding a lot of confusion to the already existing confusion. It is quite fair for schools to keep some points for the parents background. Tomorrow we will say WHY NEIGHBORHOOD? WHY ALUMNI? WHY SIBLING? BEST WOULD BE EVERYONE APPLIES AND SCHOOLS DO LUCKY DRAW ONLY? If some of us have studied and worked hard all our lives OBVIOULSY WE WANT OUR CHILDREN TO REAP THE BENEFIT RIGHT?? I SUGGEST WE BEHAVE RESPONSIBLY AND DO THESE ENDLESS DEBATES ONCE THIS ROUND OF ADMISSIONS IS OVER NOT NOW. FOR NEXT YEAR WE CAN HAVE A BIG DEBATE AND THEN DECIDE BUT AT THIS LAST MOMENT IT IS TOTALLY CRAZY.
Suffering for What? For violating the rights of others.
It is not a matter of suffering a few parents. It is a question of our 'fundamental right of equal opportunity'. Existing point system violates our children's fundamental rights. It should be immediately voided.
Rightly said. The debate would start for every criteria and point. Why we indiscreminate girl and boy. Why extra point for girl child and so on. Either keep common criteria and point system for each school or the point system should completely go away.

Oh dear!
What a mess. It has taken me more than 30 minutes to go thru the posts and I have a headache. Life is all about an uneven playing field. I am very surprised that up until now the DoE has not made it mandatory to have 30% reservation for SC/ST. Mr Sumit Vohra, you must raise this point as well, as I feel there is discrimination in Nursery representations for SC/ST and Dalits and backward classes and minorities. All schools - DPS, Modern, Sanskriti, Amity, Bluebells, Achlon, KR Mangalam, Mother Intl, etc, etc should implement this great equaliser. And they should study for free and not thousands.
My take:
1. Neighbourhood: It is the government's responsibility to have good schools in all suburbs. All over the world preference is given to children living in the neighbourhood of say 1 to 5 kms. In foreign countries I have seen my friends buy/rent houses in the vicinity of the posh /best schools paying triple the rent/price so that their child is given automatic admission. I really wonder how many parents would be willing to relocate to colonies near their preffered schools???
Nursery child is only 3 years old and its not fair to subject such a small baby to travel huge distances. We like a really good school in Noida but are simply not ready to subject our baby to 1 hour of commute each way from Moti bagh. What happen if the school bus breaks down in high summer or monsoons/traffic jams? Or a medical emergency?
2. Sibling: It is but natural and correct in every aspect to have all siblings study in the same school. Ease of transportation, ease of attending PTA's, ease of older sibling looking after the younger one, same books, uniforms, holidays together. All schools say that they have X number of seats for general category (non sibling etc). I have an elder daughter in a school and my son is not able to get into that school because of the point system. Had the point system been there 4 years ago my daughter would have got all the points and my son too would have made it.
Girl child: With the crazy ratio of boys and girls in the North India, the government is making an effort to give importance to a girl child. My son will not get points but Life is all about what it serves you and what you make out of it. Abdul Kalam became India's best scientist inspite of being from a poor background and he made his way to the top...
Professional qualification: Well we are average parents - not PG but both me and my wife have got double bachelors. The schools where we have applied do not give points for qualifications but then where does the argument stop???? Some schools have a strict business parent selection criterea for donation purposes. Sanskriti and DPS favour government employees and in Saskriti there is discrimination between various government departments...
Alumni: All over the world again preference is given to alumni's children. Its a tradition. If a parent has spent 12 years of life in a school they will always look upon their alma mater for their children.I am from out of Delhi and my wife is from a very good convent in south delhi. Now where does my son get the points to go to a convent? I was in favour of putting my elder daughter in my wife's school (which is only 15 minutes away) but my wife was hell bent that our daughter is not subjected to a convent... So???
Intercaste marriage: we could have had 5 points for this as I am a Himachali Khatri and my wife a Jain. But this year there are no points for it?
Synopsis: I would suggest that we all should take a deep breath and continue with the points as it is FOR THIS INTAKE and whatever suggestions are to be given should be done now for next year and clear, thoughtful guidlines be drafted by July 2010 to be implemented for 2011. Last minute changes are no good and let me tell you - all these changes would benefit the schools and their vested interest. I read in the paper that Modern has been asked to disclose its points and selection criterea. Mr Vohra, have they done it? Once the admissions are over no one will even remember it nor bother about it. No body has filed a RTI for getting the answers....
Whatever rules you make there will always be a percentage of people who will find it unfair and the government has to take a stand....
Jai Dilli, Jai Bharat!
