first of all only one systems has to be there which all schools have to follow whether in delhi, noida, faridabad or other cities..why such a big confusion is there...parents should know how they hve to prepare themselves or kids..we go mad to remember which school is following which point systems...thanks to this forum of being a big help to all of us...we don't have to worry about timings of forms & point systems etc.
what govt has been doing making mockery of system for so many years ?
Whatever the system, it must be decided and made publice to all BEFORE the start of the admission process of the first acshool. Last year, in Delhi, some schools changed their point crieteria after the submission of application forms as the norms got changed mid way. To make matters worse, the schools did not inform the parents of the new crieteria...case in point - Sanskriti School. Here again there is confusion. The department of education has to be a more sensitive to our anxieties
DAV Gurgaon is also following the Lottery rule this year.
DRAWBACKS OF LOTTERY SYSTEM:

1. Lottery system will only add to chaos. Since there is no surety who'd get admission where, EVERYBODY "WILL HAVE TO" APPLY almost EVERYWHERE!

2. Instead of reducing crowds at the schools, lottery system would only add to the crowd. Ultimately we'll only be complaining of mismanagement and crowd and chaos. Post admissions, getting refunds from all the rest schools would again be chaotic.

3. Neither parents not schools have option of choosing each other. Its completely random as to who who gets what.. both ways! Even though I may not able to sustain myself for GD Goenkas still I'll have to apply there and if get through, will have to manage it somehow or other! Also as someone mentioned, there will not be much choice even at broader level of Holistic vs Acads education. Kids future would be decided by luck or fate! Parents would only be able to watch helplessly.

4. This is as bad as actual lottery involving money. Even those who may not be able to sustain high fee education, will try their luck at "lottery for all", may be to just try their luck! Who wouldn't want to try getting into best schools? Moreover, one lucky chance would draw hundred others along. This will only increase applicants and reduce chances of suitable selection.

5. Lottery system implementation may be practically impossible either at state or national level! Think of who's who wards not getting selected by fair lottery system! Or studying alongside my ward :) These who's who may be the ones who are capable of buying/building chain of schools across globe. Seems tough that "fair" lottery system would get implemented in India.

6. One may never be able to question fairness of the results once the process is over. The fairness can be checked only then and there. To ensure it, at least one "honest" person must be present for each school during the process. There is not audit possible after the process. The results can't be repeated. One will never be able to question the fairness after the process is over.

Lottery system is much more complicated than it seems from the face of it.

Lottery system will provide hopes to all and hence efforts from all but will actually benefit only a few. What is worse is that winners would win for no effort of theirs and losers would lose for no fault of theirs! The winners would please themselves for being God protected and losers would depress themselves for being ill fated! The winners and losers would be decided with no actual efforts being put in! It would be results without efforts!

I say this is pretty useless proposition.

There should be opportunity for all but there should be well defined and transparent process in place for selection. Better still we should be able to know our prospective schools in advance so that unnecessarily we do not waste our efforts where things are not within reach.

I think the other counselling like option we might be pondering over is something like this:
http://www.admissionsnursery.com/forum/topics/what-should-be-the-nu...

Lets discuss this approach. Seems to be much cleaner.
I guess lottery system is the best option, at least it would give us freedom to try our luck in the schools we feel are good for our child and not repent if it were some point system and someone else would have decided whether we have the right to apply or not!! But it should be fair, no doubt..
Lot system is the best bt it shuld be confined whit in five km. in range
Let's stop playing with the live's of children who are not even aware of what is happening. I don't want laws which doesn't allow me to choose. Things should go back to how it was before 2007. It has only resulted in utter chaos and confusion for everyone...parents and even schools.
it shud be point system and the age shud b 3+
Point system is better instead of draw of lots...as if there will be draw of lots then major chances will be of fraud.
Age criteria should be 3 or 3.5+
Draw system is good but have to take care abt the transparency. Otherwise it will become a underhand money making process for the school.
