NURSERY ADMISSIONS-Latest litigation against alumni, sibling points has created two factions among parents- Hindustan Times Mar 20

Tempers run high as parents file PIL to scrap alumni points
NURSERY Latest litigation against alumni, sibling points has created two factions among parents

NEW DELHI: The nursery admission mess has not just created mistrust between parents and the authorities. It has also soured relations between parents.

The latest PIL against including alumni and sibling points in the nursery admission guidelines has created two factions — one against and one for it, at least for now.

“It is too late in the day for yet another PIL. The guidelines were announced on December 18. Why did these parents not protest against the alumni and sibling points at that time? Any problems that they now have should be addressed in next year’s guidelines,” said a parent, who did not want to be named.

“My daughter has got admission through the alumni points. Every parent wants their child to go to the same school as them. Even if others don’t agree with this, they have to agree with it being too late to cancel all admissions after we have been assured of a seat,” she added.

Some parents applied only in a couple of schools as they were sure that they would get admission in the school of their choice.

“I applied to a school where I studied and where my elder daughter studies. That gives me 95 points out of 95. I did not need to apply to any other school as I was sure I would get admission here. Now all of that seems to be a waste because the guidelines may change,” said Ketan Adhikari, a parent who lives in east Delhi.

Heated discussions between parents can be observed on online admission guidance portals, with passions running high.

The nursery admission process in the city is yet to take off with the Delhi High Court staying the process till March 24.

Nursery admission for disabled kids: HC pulls up Delhi govt

Arora has challenged Lt Governor's nursery admission guidelines to extent it clubs disabled children with kids from economically weaker groups

The High today pulled up the city government for not taking steps to ensure that three per cent seats be kept vacant in nursery classes for kids with disabilities.

Taking serious note of non-implementation of its earlier orders, a bench of justices S Ravindra Bhat and R V Easwar asked the Delhi government, through its counsel Zubeda Begum, to implement them "forthwith".

The bench also directed the city government to file an affidavit indicating the steps taken by it to implement the orders of the court while giving a warning to it not to take the issue "lightly".

The court said if no circular, communicating its decision to the schools, is issued by the next date of hearing, the Principal Secretary concerned be present before it and posted the matter to March 28.

"Don't take it lightly. By not doing so (issuing the circular), you have rendered our decision infructuous. How will you ensure that three per cent quota is set aside once the stay on admissions is lifted? How will the schools know about our order? Who will be responsible?

"What are you waiting for? What are you scared of?" the bench asked when Zubeda Begum submitted that no harm has been done by non-issuance of the circular as admissions to nursery class have been stayed by the court.

The bench had on February 26 and March 12 ordered three per cent seats be kept vacant for disabled kids which would be filled subject to the outcome of the petition.

The court was today informed about non-issuance of the circular to communicate its decision to the schools by the petitioner Pramod Arora's counsel Anshumaan Sahni.

Arora has challenged the Lt Governor's nursery admission guidelines to the extent it clubs disabled children with kids from (EWS).

@Preeti Thanks for even thinking about 70 pointers. Imagine their plight when they were running from one school to another standing in queues in this bitter cold to fill one form in the faint hope that their child would be able to get one seat be it good or bad. Do you really think it is easy asking for leaves in first half and then slogging till late night to complete the days work. I know at least 50 parents who in spite of having sibling points applied in 15-30 schools. The trauma never ended there we had to accommodate time from schedule to be their at lotteries also just because the mere thought that our childs chit should not be left out. During this whole period no one cared about our misery you were enjoying your sweet time laughing. Please could you kindly tell us what stopped you from applying in multiple schools and please do not give me the answer that you wanted to give opportunity to 70 pointers like us. Also the amount you will be spending in play school will be much less than each of us spent during admission form process and are still paying the additional cost of play school like you.

All of us have to understand the game changer was not the removal of TC points but forcing a redraw of honest 70 pointers who got a genuine rarest of rare seat. Also genuine TC point holders should understand that the main reason of their losing seats were not 70 pointers but alumni point holders as they wanted to kill their competition. TC pointers should challenge alumni as they are the one who piggy backed on 70 pointers and left them once their agenda was over. Name one school where the direct effect of TC removal has not benefitted alumni set seekers.

So if it is a redraw then all of the points have to be removed including sibling and alumni and everyone should get fair chance because we low lives 70 pointers have lost our only seat wherever we got it.

The alternate option is that status of 26th Feb is maintained as genuine TC cases were not at fault only fake cases should be prosecuted.

As the heading said what is the justification Transfer points now similarity what is the justification of alumni and sibling.

My son has got confirmed seat in Ryan Interatinal Rohini and Maxfort Rohini in the second draw. I'm still worried whether he will still get the admission.

@Shikha, is your child selected in any school? Think about parent like me. I filled 20 schools forms. My daughter got selected in one school in first draw and due to transfer cases it was hanged. I am in hope that HC will resume initial draw.

Same time there are so many parents who got admission through Alumni & Sibling points. Only sufferer are 70 pointers who either got selected or not selected.

All of us want the process to be smooth but at the same time we also want not to waste one year of our children.

Dear Parents, this is not the time to challenge any criteria or quota. There are many things which can be challenged NOW. All suggestions & questions are being well captured by Vohra Ji & Sakshi Ji to take it forward for next session. Now let this process have smooth & happy ending !!

dear sakshi you haven't done a survey on how many non-sibling non-alumni parents want to keep sibling or alumni criteria intact... plz do it as there are also some honest parents who want sibling criteria (maybe for their future kids) but trust me all of them want the alumni points to go...
