I agree that the age of 3 years is too early, child at that age is very tender to swallow the regular school life.
i think it shd b 4+ as kids r too young fr formal schooling at 3.also all the developed nations start formal schooling at 5....we are still strating early even at 4+.
3.5 yrs+ is the ideal age for nursery admission as per my opinion, since i have seen a lot of difference in my daughter from the time she has turned 3 in June to now when she is 3.5 yrs old. she is more independent about taking care of herself and she is more expressive now about her feelings.
It should be definitely 3 plus. As already the age criteria for pre schools like Mother's pride and all is 2 and above, and there are lots of working parents who admit their kids to the school at the tender age of 2.
Increasing the age criteria from 3 to 4 will hardly make any difference, this would mean one more year in the pre school, so i would say kids rather go to the proper school at 3 rather than spending the precious one year in small time pre schools. Though I would suggest that they can take easy on the learning part, it should be interactive and funny.
I think the age should be 4+, but with a condition that there is just one year of pre-primary study in the formal school. My reasons are as follows:

1. 3+ for formal school is too young, I see my daughter enjoying in play school, and learning a little, I want this to continue for one more year, so that she likes the idea of learning. I would not like to make her go through the ordeal of formal learning so early!

2. There should only be one class"pre-primary" in formal school, because kids normally start play school at the age of2+, so it is not fair for them to study 4 years (2 in play school + 2 in formal), before entering primary school, this is just ridiculous.

3. A 4+ kid is grown up enough to learn the basics before moving to primary, he doesnt need 2 years of formal education before moving to 1st standard.

4. kids would be at par with others all over India, when the finish 12th, if they enter in class 1 at the age of 5.
While I agree with this in Theory, but in light of our 'selfless' education systems, what do we think would happen to that extra year of learning thats currently a part of the curriculum? A good part of it would be crammed into nursery or 1st class, and would end up giving more pressure to children.

I still think that 3 years with a cutoff of september, so that children between 3.5 and 4.5 years of age would start school, provides an ideal middle path.
The perfect age for a child to be in nursery is 4+ on 30th Sep of admission year. By this time kids are mature enough
I also agree with Rashi and Roohi. Everyone is assuming that 3 years means all children are packed off on their 3rd birthday. We need to consider the age distribution, and help save time of children who turn 4 after march 31st, and would end up staying at home till they're almost 5. It would be a very unfair disadvantage to these children.

People who feel their children are too young to go to school when they're 3 can always wait for another year. So no loss there. But parents whose almost 4 year old is all set should not be made to wait another year while their peers get the headstart in life. If we can't do that, at least have 3.5 years as the best middle path (keep the age as 3 but the cut-off as september, not march). That way all parents have the option to go with what is best for their child.
As per my views, the sge should be 4+, as the education system has become so demanding a child comes under pressure of studies. As we as parents faced interviews in the name of interaction with school authorities we were not able to understand what actually they are looking for in a child of 3 years of age. If say my child wants to play with other childeren presented over there, the teachers are forcing her to color and if she dosent do that they your child is not admitted in the school. our system is not understanding the psychology of childern but they are trying to make them robots. Especiall;y in India the reserch is only 1 or 2 percent as comoared to world data, so the schools are also not doing any such researches. No two persons or children can be same so how can they be judged on same parameters. in conclusion i just want to say is tat we must give our children enough space to blossom and that can be done only by increasing the age as our school system does not permit it.
The age criteria for nursery admission should be 4+ as on 31st Mar 11. As the kids are too small to handle this.
I am Kamal Sadana. I really endore the the policy of a child should be 3.5 or 4 yrs + to go to formal school. Reason being its medically proved that tenderness of brain got spoiled because of so much of formal atmospher. I came across lots of case where Kids start urinating in bus or class due to discipline fear or become obesse due to tensions. So its not what lovely anand is thinking or what kapil sibbal want. Rather what nature has created we have to nurture it all the more.
Hi everybody,
Many people have different views on this age criteria.

I think , whether the age for nursery is 3+ or 4+, BUT........the age for Class I should be 5+.

Children at the age 3+, generally are not well trained for Toilet.
Also it is some times difficult for them to adjust in a big school.

Taking these points, the age should be 4+, BUT..... this should be of one year only ( merging Nursery an Prep Syllabus ) So
that the entry age for class I may remain at 5+.

Most Important point :......... This should be implemented throughout the country.....and not only in Delhi .
