can you please explain how a 4+ child is physically, mentally and emotionally more stable...i dont agree with your freedom concept...how can you say this? ....according to you a parent will get freedom and earn more money once a kid goes to school??? if you want a child some enjoy more time at home first go and have playschools banned..why playschools at 2+ age???? this is for all the parents who want 4+ creteria how many of you waited for your kid to turn 3+ before admitting them in playschools...why not start from the beginning and have a age cretria set for playschools first if you guys are so much worried about kid's childhood and schooling pressures....
Hi!
No offence meant - my observation was basis some ppl I know. Should not have generalized I guess.

Yes we did put our child in playschool only after he turned 3 and now we are putting him in Nursery at 4+. That should settle your queries.

Nevertheless, there is nothing wrong or slow with the child - the guy started talking at the age of 1, has got through 9 of the 10 schools we applied. The 10th was a lottery and we never got a chance. Everyone who's met him has been more than impressed.

The point that I wanted to make and did not come out clearly is - many schools found us 'ineligible', our child 'overage' simply because there are lacs of parents putting their ward at 3+, some over-zealous, even attempting at 2+ (trust me this is a reality). Some parents even told us we 'wasted our child's precious one year and ours too!'

I have no problems with parents putting their ward at 3+ or even 2+ for that matter. The decision is theirs to make and so are the consequences.

But because of the actions of others, my actions should not appear as 'lazy' or 'un-responsible' or declare my ward 'overage' and push me to produce false birth certificates!

The limits should be relaxed and broad enough to accommodate ppl like us!
right sir, you did put your kid in playschool after he/she turned 3 but its not with the case of few other who want 4+ age cretria...same is the case with me too i also admitted my child to playschool when he turned 3 but cant afford to put him in same playschool for another year ..but sir you should have gone by the cretria that was being followed instead of letting your kid get overage....if the option is left for parents to have there child admitted at any age it will create huge age gap in a single class among the students...and i have explianed 100 times that its simply not possible to have 4+ age as on 31st march creteria in coming session...
I feel more than the age of the kids the important issue is to imporvethe quality of our education system, the teaching methodology of schools if improved like i observed in many play schools, the learning graph of kids would improve. Instead of just raising the age limit if system of training and teaching improves it is always better to put the kid in school in 3 years also.

There is no pressure on the schools to do this rather lottery system or any other way just encourages under the table addmissions which creates grudges in the mind of parents.

Bhanu
It shud be 4
I feel that 3 yrs is the perfect age for nursery admission because these days they start with the play school at the age of 2 or even before and hence they know a lot and have a good exposure too......so there is no point of wasting a year
Not every Kid is Intelligent... by birth but yes some are... but according to me decision must taken keeping in mind over all kids, so, i think age should be 4+ for the child to go to regular school.... so that it will be justice to all kids and their parents.
if you want 4+ its only possible if age creteria is 4+ as on 30th sep 2011 not as on 31st march 2011..schools and govt cant run as per your demands...nursery sessions will go empty if its 4+ as on 31st march 2011...
age should be 4+ for nursery..i don't understand why education minister says child should be of 5 yrs old when he is in first standard..In punjab there is UKG and LKG system.so when a child reaches in first, his age is around 6..my kid who is feb born and studying in nursery still doesn't write alphabets properly ..i feel its a torture.i'm going to repeat his class..others parents are also facing the same problem.only those kids should be eligible for nursery who are born between oct to sep as it was earlier .Mr Vohra You are requested to raise this issue. age criteria should be 3+ on 31 sep.
I agree that the formal education should start at 4 years ,at 3 years a child can go to Play school for an Year ,but lot of parents have suggested that after nusery it should be straight to first grade which i think will be again too much pressure on a child because what they learn in 2 years they will have to get there concepts right in one year . The pace of learning will have to be be very fast in nusersery to get ready for the first grade ,so I feel there is no way KG can be skipped.
i am all for 4+.
4 years for nursery and 5 years for first.. no K.G. in between.. a 3 year old kid is too small to be loaded upon with rigors of a school... play school is fine but full fledged school is a bit too much..
