Alumni Quota Points AGAINST RTE SPIRIT- as per my interpretation - PLS GIVE YOUR VIEWS HERE

Dear Parents

Yesterday i raised this point on delhi aajtak  live show in front of principal springdales  that Alumni point is discrminatory  and she was blank did not have answer

My observations

RTE says you cannot do the profiling of kid on basis of parents education and income

But when we talk of alumni it means the parents is at least educated till 12 grade

so here discrimation is obvious between uneducated parents and educated parents

this suits schools the why this point is kept against RTE spirit

i personaly feel its like adding education poits

THEN WHY EDUCATION POINTS ARE NOT BEING CONSIDERED

PLEASE GIVE YOUR TAKE

Absolutely agree with your observations ..

i totally agree....this is like the old caste system where the right to education is actually determined by the family in which you are born. if education qualifications are not a basis how can the alma mater be one of the criteria?

i support your stand 100%

Dear all,

Its extremely distressing to see how the Government has thrown away a good opportunity to revamp the entire

Nursery admission process in Delhi.

SOme good news that DCPCR has finally issued notices to both Delhi Govt. & Union HRD Ministry on the Nurswery education policy as its violative of RTE.

Sumitji thanks for initiating this discussion.

thank you,

Mukul Mishra

I agree that alumini is against the right to education and it made me read through the RTE Act in detail today. Its a 13 page Gazzette notification which gives the guidelines for giving free and compulsory education. On admission, it says no screening procedure for admission except random selection. Which means any criteria of selection is unjustified. Which means is lottery or first cum first serve only way to do random selection? I hope not.

While a lot of relaxation has been given this time for selection (actually  it doesn't comply with RTE), i hope it doesn't give free hand to schools to make money.

The time frame for full enforcement of RTE is 3 years, we should have enough schools of euqivalent standards by then, so that random selection can be done to the satisfaction of all.

Sumit Ji,

Is there a chance that this year there will be standard point system for all the schools or still the manuplation will prevail? If its so then instead of discussing anything else we should start discussing how to get back door entry in schools? lol

Surely agree, this is similar to assigning points for Parent education

i am in total agreement with you sir!!

Also, dont forget the fact that people move in life.

I studied from Safdurjung enclave Green Fields school, since we lived there, but it would be cruel to send my kid to that place from dwarka. many of my school mates are living in rohini or the new areas like dwarka etc. what happens to them.

So, we loose the alumini points.

I believe only neighbourhood and alertness of the kid should be the only criteria.

Regards

absolutely correct Sumit ji

u r right , ALUMNI SHOULD NOT BE THE CRITERIA AT ALL.

One more request : Sumit ji, Pls ask these ministers - Does RTE means - EDUCATION TO ONE (EWS CHILD) AND DEPRIVING OTHER (GEN CATEGORY CHILD)?

Where will our children will go for education? why they are not concerned with the RIGHT TO EDUCATION  of our children?

Thank You Mr Vohra, I absolutely agree to this. I see no point in keeping this as a criteria, its shows a clear cut discremination even against parents of general category. Also i dont understand how schools see this as a benefit? I am completely against this criteria.

Dear Mr Vohra

I completely agree with your assessment regarding the alumni points. All schools give alumni points to parents who have done their 12th standard from that particular school. No points are give to someone who has done say the first five years of schooling from that particular school. This, therefore implies, as you have righthy mentioned that the parents are at least educated up to 12th standard. Parents who are not educated would thus be at disadvantage and would lose these points. This essentially is against the spirit of the RTE. If this is to considered, then parents' education should also be considered. If that is not being considered then alumni should also not be considered.

In addition, I would also like to highlight trough your forum, the case of firts born son. If sibling is getting some points then the first born son should get equal points as he not getting an equal opportunity as compared to the second born child whoe elder sibling is studying in particular school and getting thos points. Thus, in my opinion if siblings points are kept then the first born son should also get points equal to the sibling points. This would bring more parity in the ponits scheme and would be truly in the spirit of RTE.

Regards

Prateek

If profiling of kids is impermissible under the RTE then why Alumni should be given points as being an alumni itself shows the profile of the parents.
